Viewing Area

Please remember that we appreciate parents and spectators using the viewing area. Please be aware of other parents also wanting to watch their child’s swimming lessons and move off pool deck as soon as your child has entered their class.

It can often be distracting for the children to have their parents / carer’s and siblings on pool deck, the child is more likely to be able to concentrate and progress in their class if you are slightly removed from their lesson.

Helpful Tip!

Please have your child ready for the start of their swimming lesson, including having their swimming hat and goggles ready.

Putting caps and goggles on takes up valuable swimming time in your lesson, if you are unsure on how to put these on your children, please ask the pool deck supervisor and they will be happy to show you.

No Swimming before Lessons

Please be reminded that there is to be no swimming before or after your lesson, The Aquatic Safety Training Academy is a vocational training centre, and any swimming in the program pool is for lessons only, please keep your children with you until the teacher is ready to take them into their lesson

The swimming instructor’s duty of care begins when your child is placed in their lesson and ceases at the end their lesson.

Parents must accompany children to and from their swimming lessons and remain in the Centre for the duration of their child’s lesson; children must not be left without supervision at any time during your visit to the centre. We thank you for your understanding and appreciate your cooperation in regards to this matter.

Learn to Swim Bookings for Term 1 2013

Consistent swimming (and especially learning to swim) helps children succeed throughout their life. Swimming encourages setting and attaining goals, overcoming fears to assert independence and finding new and fun ways to stay active.

Something as simple as being able to play independently in a pool with friends is a huge accomplishment for young children and the confidence that it builds is seen in school, social situations and in other recreational activities.

Swimming skills, just like skills needed for any other activities, can be lost over time. If a child goes the entire school year without swimming, they lose many of the skills they may have had the summer prior which can actually be quite discouraging; learning to swim is not like learning to ride a bicycle. You won’t always remember how. It’s more like learning a language or playing an instrument. If you don’t use it, you lose it. Swimming deals with a foreign element…water. It uses different muscle groups that are not used on land.

This is why we will be returning to regular swimming lessons January 13 th 2014. This is earlier than previous years; however for students to maintain their swim skills with proper technique and form we feel this is essential to your child’s progress. When progress grows, confidence, skills and proper habits are developed.

One extra make up class will be given to all swimmers for Term 1 only, therefore a maximum of 3 make ups are available for Term

1. To be entitled to any make ups the Parent/carer must advise our office that your child will be away prior to their lesson time.

Make up lessons are offered subject to availability but are not recommended. Children can often be unsettled when swimming with a different instructor and different class members. This can cause disruption to their aquatic learning experience.

Term 1 will start Monday 13 th January

Bookings for Term 1 2013 will start on Monday 18 th November. The first two weeks will be for members who are currently enrolled in the program and wish to stay on the same day and same time.

On Monday 2 nd December our current members will be able to request a change of time or change of day. Please call on the day you wish to change to e.g. if you want to move to a Monday class, call on Monday, Tuesday class, call on Tuesday of this week.

From Monday 9 th December we will be taking enrolments from new swim school members.

Please be reminded that all fees are payable upon booking, we cannot hold a position for you without the fees being paid in full.

Remember to enrol your children for Term 1 classes. Positions will fill fast!!!

We cannot guarantee your same swim school position if you do not re-enrol during the first two weeks of re-booking. (18

What Should Your Child Wear In Their lessons?

Well fitted swim costumes for the boys and a well fitted two piece or one piece for the girls. As a rule less is best! As we are an indoor and heated facility there is no need for “rash shirts” these along with board shorts tend to fill with water and restrict the movement and buoyancy of the children during their lessons. Babies are required to use Aqua Nappies and their swimmers

To maximize the progress of your swimmer it’s important that they are wearing the correct swimwear. Well fitted goggles and a swim cap are invaluable and can lead to the building of confidence in the child as they progress through their swimming experience. Swim suits should be to a minimum - simple

We have a range VICI of swimming accessories available at reception that is reasonably priced and excellent quality.

All swimwear should be rinsed in cold water after use and air dried immediately in a shaded area. Direct sunlight and tumble drying will shorten the life of swimwear

A Word from the Facility Manager - Roz Neville

It is fantastic to see the improvement most children have made with their swimming throughout the year. But please remember as we move into summer, that we must respect the aquatic environments we may visit during the School holidays and to be vigilant whenever we are in or around water.

Last year’s survey feedback identified the need for lessons to resume earlier in January, as a result of this feedback we have scheduled term 1 to start January 13 th 2014. Also with school carnivals approaching the additional two week term will provide your children with this added tuition.

During the school holidays we will be asking you to complete a short survey, as we would like to know how you feel about your lessons and provide you with an opportunity to offer feedback on how we can improve further .
