What’s New in Math?
This week in math introduced some
tricky math vocabulary: quadrilaterals and
vertices. We worked on sorting out shapes
by the number of vertices and sides. We
spent time making our own shapes using
dot paper and had a contest to see who
could make the most. The students loved
the contest and we decided everyone was
a winner. We also dipped our toes in
measurement by introducing length.
What Have We Been
Reading?
This week in Shared Reading we introduced
the book Creature Features. The story lent itself
to discussions about adjectives and the use of
details. We created our own Creature Feature
story page where we used clues to help our
classmates guess our creature.
During our center work we created a book
helping us identify the short e sound, Jen. We
are focusing on our handwriting and have so far
discussed lower case letters: c, o, a, d, g, q, p, s,
r and n.
Writing Workshop
This week in writing we discussed the use of
details in our writing. We reviewed the five
senses and discussed ways we could
incorporate those into our writing. We also
spent more time talking about how to plan
our stories prior to writing them. We talked
about taking a story out of our pocket and
using our fingers to tell the story.

was sent home asking you to select a
time. If these times do not work for you
please contact me directly. Thank you!
This Week’s Highlights
*Welcome Trevon to Room 222. Trevon joined
our class on Thursday 10/31 and we are very
excited to have him.
*The weather is changing so please help us in
making sure the students are prepared for the
cooler weather.
Fun Things in Room 222:
We will be starting grade level
homework on Friday November 8th.
Students will receive a book bag on
Friday that they will keep at home
until Thursday. While at home have
the students practice their stories by
reading to any and everyone. Sending
home book bags is a way to build
upon the student’s already established
reading fluency. There is no set
amount of time the students need to
read each night. We just want the
students to be reading as often as
possible. If you have any questions
about the grade level homework
please do not hesitate to ask.
