Week of 10/13/14 Notes Reminders: In your child's Thursday folder last week, you should've seen an assignment called "Leaf Man". In class we read the story "Leaf Man" by Lois Ehlert and saw how you can create a creature/man out of leaves. The paper in your child's folder explains the assignment. This assignment is due next Thursday, October 16th. Your child will share his/her leaf creature/man to the class on this day. Thursday is a half-day, ending at 11:15 am and students will NOT be having lunch at school that day. Please do not send them with a lunch. Report cards: The kindergarten team would like to notify you that your child’s report card will reflect all of the skills your child will be expected to master by the end of kindergarten. Please note that the scores (0-3) reflect their current understanding and your child will show growth with each quarterly assessment. Throughout the course of the year, these skills will be taught allowing your child to show growth in needed areas. In addition, reading and writing levels will be discussed at conferences along with questions about report cards. Report cards will be available on Parent Portal beginning Wednesday, 10/15. To view your report card, select “reports” and “kindergarten report card.” Parent/Teacher Conferences are happening on Thursday, October 16th and Friday, October 17th. Also, please note that even though the time blocks are 20 minutes long, the conferences are only 15 minutes in order to give teachers time to prepare for their next conference, so please arrive early and prepared with whatever questions you may have. I sent home a Conference Questionnaire this past Thursday that if you choose to complete and return by Monday, will help me to be better prepared to answer your questions/concerns. In math, we are continuing with learning "doubles facts" (ex: 4 + 4 = 8). To help them memorize these facts, we teach them a "doubles rap". The rap is on my website, under kindergarten documents. Don't forget to vote for "Celebrate My Drive"! More details are available on the SVA website. Please remember that Monday is our Library day, and so if you still have the library book that they checked out this week, they need to have it on Monday in order to check out a new one.
