Job Role & Description
The role of the Programming and Producing Manager is to create an original and high quality
performance programme for children and young people, support artists and companies inside and
outside the studio, and take responsibility for the contracting and operational logistics of all
incoming companies.

Detailed key responsibilities
Programming
1. Work within the vision and frameworks set by the Head of Creative Programmes and the
Artistic Director to deliver a diverse and accessible performance programme for Children and
Young People which grows the audience base and its understanding of dance and ensures
opportunities exist around the programme for deepening and extending engagement.
2. Work with the Head of Creative Programmes to deliver and produce our annual summer
season of Unusual Dance in Unusual Places.
3. Liaise with all visiting artists/companies to organise the logistics of their visit and prepare
detailed service contracts.
4. Work with the Learning and Participation Manager to identify opportunities for broader
engagement with visiting artists/companies, including company classes, extended casting,
workshops etc.
5. Work with the Venue Manager, Technical Manager, and other staff to ensure the safe
delivery of events; including licensing, risk assessments, production planning etc.
6. Lead on preparing evaluation reports for the whole artistic programme ensuring learning is
shared across the organisation.
7. Collaborate closely and effectively with programming partners including the Bournemouth
Arts By The Sea Festival, Activate and regional venues, in the delivery of partnership
projects.

Artist Development and Producing
8. Work within the vision and frameworks set by the Head of Creative Programmes to create
and initiate opportunities for artist development through training, mentoring and
professional development with a view to improving the quality of provision in the South
West.
9. Work closely inside and outside the studio to build excellent relationships with the
companies and artists we support and to identify and deliver to their needs, including
producing Work In Progress performances and events.
10. Lead on Visual Artist relationships, open studios and exhibitions.
11. Explore how Pavilion Dance South West can become more directly involved with producing
the sort of work that suits the organisation’s artistic manifesto and delivers great
experiences for audiences.
Finance
12. Manage and monitor individual project budgets within the overall artistic budget, under the
guidance of the Head of Creative Programmes.
13. Develop fundable projects to further the organisation’s programming, artist support and
producing aspirations. Work with the Fundraising Coordinator to identify funding sources and
contribute to the preparation of fund-raising applications and fundraising initiatives and any
subsequent reporting.
Promotion
14. Promote and advocate for Pavilion Dance South West amongst peers, artists and stakeholders
within the local, regional, national and international dance sector.
15. Contribute to marketing strategies and the production of print and other promotional
literature.
Other Duties
16. Be aware of, and actively implement the organisation’s policies with regard to, for example,
Equal Opportunities, Child Protection and Diversity.
17. Attend staff and other relevant meetings; participate in training and other forms of staff
development.
18. Be available to work at evenings, weekends and bank holidays as per the programme
activities.
19. Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post as directed by your line manager.

Essential Experience, knowledge and skills


At least 2 years experience of working in or around the Dance or contemporary performance
sector
A good knowledge of the regional and national dance infrastructure
Experience of programming and/or creative production
Experience of working within a performance venue
A proven track record of working in support of artists successfully
Entrepreneurial flair and the proven ability to generate new creative ideas and successfully
realise them
A good understanding of the issues affecting artist training, professional development and
contemporary practice
Experience of project management including working with diverse teams and in multiple
partnerships and evidence of a deep and thoughtful understanding of what constitutes good
partnership working
Strong IT skills

Experience of managing budgets

Demonstrable experience of successful fundraising













Strong networks within the dance sector nationally
A good awareness of current developments in dance and contemporary performance
Experience of producing outdoor / site-specific events.
Evidence of sensitive dramaturgical skills to influence and support the creation and
development of new work which can relate effectively to wider audiences
Degree level relevant qualification

Experience of building relationships with a local community, promoting opportunities for
partnership

Full UK driving licence and access to a car
