Job Description Job title: Graduate Technical Assistant (Dance), 0.5FTE Fixed term from 1 September 2015 to 30 June 2015 Reports to: Senior Technical Tutor (Dance) Department: Department of Dance Grade: RU4 Main purpose of the job: The Technical Assistant will work with the Senior Technical Tutor (Dance) to assist in the delivery of productions for the Dance Department. The successful candidate will typically be a recent graduate in a performing arts discipline and will have acquired appropriate knowledge and skills through practice and experience within a similar department from which they have graduated. In addition some introductory knowledge of basic rigging and lantern functions and understanding of basic sound and light console operation is required. A working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and an understanding of procedures and regulations are required. Main duties and responsibilities: To assist the Senior Technical Tutor (Dance) with the day to day running of the technical department. To rig, sound check and operate PA and sound equipment. To rig, focus and operate a computerised and manual lighting system. To provide technical support the University’s own productions and/or those of visiting artists. To maintain, repair and install technical equipment. To assist with PAT testing equipment annually and ensure that all equipment brought to the site conforms to Health and Safety regulations. To assist in fitting –up sets. To assist incoming artists and companies and artists with get-in and get-out requirements and set up stage and seating arrangements for performances. To be aware of all Health and Safety procedures and ensure the site is clear of all hazards, waste materials, etc. To help protect the safety of the public, students, staff and visitors through regular inspection and monitoring of the site. (full-time equivalent salary figures), inclusive of LWA. The appointment is usually made at the bottom of the range. The appointment is offered on a permanent basis, from as soon as possible following interview, subject to satisfactory references. Your normal hours of work will be 17.5 hours per week plus a lunch break of one hour each day. The annual leave entitlement is 25 days p.a.
