Constraints between S1 to S2 due to (N-1) contingency of 400 kV Kolar-Hosur D/C line.
(S1 comprises of AP and Karnataka: S2 comprises of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry).

Constraints in export of power from NEW grid- SR Grid :- Due to delay in commissioning 765kV
Raichur - Sholapur 2nd circuit and due to inadvertent variation of 765kV Raichur-Sholapur Ist circuit line flow, observation of Low Frequency Oscillations(LFO).
1.
Non Commercial operation of Kudankulam Unit 1 and delay in commissioning of unit 2 - Leading to transmission congestion on North-South corridor and S1-S2 corridor.
2.
Variability in wind generation ( from 100MW to 2000MW) and inadequate transmission systems for complete evacuation of wind Generation located in Thirunelveli, Udumalpet, and Theni Area.

Forecasted weaker south west monsoon will lead to low hydro generation.
1.
High loading on 400kV S.V.Chathram-Pondy SC line with full generation at NCTPS causing Vallur evacuation system and S1-S2 corridor fully stressed with compromise on N-1 security and severe loading on 230kV Network. Load generation balance should be ensured at Chennai area to avoid overloading of ISTS lines.
2.
High loading on 400kV Hosur-Salem 1&2 constraint due to delay of commissioning of Generating units in S2 area and no addition of internal generation in Tamilnadu and prolonged outage of Mettur stage-
III unit.

Constraints in Evacuation of wind generation in Tirunelveli Area and Udumalpet Area with
Kudankulam full generation.
4.
Due to delay in commissioning 400 kV Almathy-Thiruvalam D/C, 400kV Alamathy-SV Chathram DC line, 400kV Pugalur-Kalvindapattu -Sholinganallur corridor, restriction in S1-S2 corridor causing overloading of 400 kV Vijayawada-Nellore D/C and Congestion on 400kV Vallur evacuation system.

The loading on 400 kV Udumalpet-Salem DC line ranging from 400MW to 650 MW (during
November –July)depending on the Udumalpet area load, Wind generation and and KSEB Drawl. With the commissioning of 400kV Somanahalli-Dharmapuri-Salem DC line this line will become bottleneck.
Early commissioning of 400kV Pugalur- Kalvindapattu DC line and 400kV Tiruvalam –Singarapet-
Mettur III DC line need to be explored.
6.
Constraints in Chennai 230kV System due to 230kV Alamatty-Manali DC line, 230kV Manali-Koratur
S/C, 230kV Kalavindapattu-S.PKoil S/C, 230kV Kalavindapattu-Siruseri S/C, 230kV NCTPS-ETPS S/C line are severely loaded. 400kV Sholinganallur SS with evacuation system would solve the problem.
7.
Heavily loaded 230kv Network in TN system :-230kV Kundah4-Thudiyalur-OK Mandapam Sc line,
230kV MAPS-Acharapakam-Villupuram SC line, 230kV MTPS-Gobi line S/C, 230kV MTPS-Ingur SC line,
230kV Salem-Ingur line.

400/220kV 315MVA ICTs at Kalvindapattu-2 Nos:- N-1 criteria will not satisfy during the peak period of every day.
1.
Transmission lines will relieve the Constraints between S1 & S2 zones:-
765 kV Kurnool-Thiruvalam D/C (Target is Dec'14), 400kV Thiruvalam- Kalvindapattu D/C line(Expected in Nov 2014), 400 kV Almathy-Thiruvalam D/C.
400 kV New Somanhalli- Dharmapuri-Salem D/C( Target is Aug'14)
400kV Kalvindapattu-Pugalur DC, 400kV Thiruvalam-Singarapet, 400kV Singarapet-Mettur-III.
Vallur TPP(JV with NTPC), stage II, Unit 3 -500MW-Expected in Aug 2014
NLC Tamilnadu Power limited (NTPL) at Tuticorin- 2*500 MW –Expected in June and Sep 2014.

Transmission lines will relieve the Constraints between NEW grid- SR grid:-
765kV Raichur - Sholapur 2nd S/C( Target is Feb'14)ROW problem due to Farming Season .
765kV Raichur-Kurnool S/C ( Target is Aug'14), 765KV Kurnool-Thiruvalam S/C ( Exp in Dec 2014),
765kV Kurnool - Nellore Pooling Station D/C ( Target is Aug'14), 400kV Vijayawada - Nellore 2nd D/C
( Target is Nov'14). As per the MOM of the 90th meeting of OCC at SRPC, severe ROW issues faced by Powergrid on Kurnool-Raichur, Kurnool-Nellore and Vijayawada- Nellore lines .

Facilitate Evacuation of Wind Generation Located in Tirunelveli area.
400 kV Tirunelvelli-Kanarpatty DC line( Target 2016-17), 400 kV Kanarpatty-Kayathar D/C,
400kV Kayathar-Karaikudi DC( Target Mar 2014), 400kV Karaikudi-Pugalur DC ( Target Mar 2014)
400kV Pugalur-Singarpet-Sholinganallur DC( Target Mar 2014)
4.
Facilitate Evacuation of Wind Generation Located in Theni and Udumalpet area.
400 kV Thappukundu-Anikkadavu D/C line, 400 kV Anikkadavu-Rasipalayam D/C, 400kV
Rasipalayam-Dharmapuri D/C, 765kV Madhugiri- Dharmapuri DC( It will relive the constraints of S1-
S2 also).
5.
400kV Sholinganalllur-Kalavindapattu DC -Relieve the loading on the network from South to North
Chennai.
6.
Taking all available Inter-Regional lines into service between NEW and SR grid to increase I/R exchange capacity i.e. Lower Sileru - Barasur, Upper Sileru - Balimela, Chikkodi – Mudsinghi / Tandlade –
Kholapur.
7.
HVDC Raigarh (Kotra)-Pugalur Bi-pole will facilitate more power export from
NEW grid to SR grid particularly for Tamilnadu. (For power transfer from IPPs in Chattisgarh to SR region)-Capacity of the link to be decided.
