HEADTEACHER’S WEEKLY NEWS
Week ending: Friday 18th September 2015
WELCOME TO NURSERY CHILDREN
I would like to welcome all our nursery children who started at school this week. We have been amazed
at how happily they have come in and the lack of tears. Long may it continue!! This year we have several
children in the nursery who already have siblings in the school so we feel like we know you already! To
those new children and families who started this week welcome to the Spellbrook family – we hope you
will be happy at our school.
ATTENDANCE
Year 6 children went out on Wednesday to Lea Valley Park to watch the World Championship Canoe
Slalom taking place. Some of the children even managed to make it onto the news!! They also had a go
at canoeing themselves and did some other fun activities. Miss Pottrill, Mrs Walton and Mrs O’Donovan
accompanied them and said it was a brilliant day and as usual praised the children for their behaviour.
This trip was their reward for being the best attenders in 2013 – 2014. (Yes – we know it is late – but it
was worth the wait!!) Y4 children, who were the best attenders last year in Y3, we won’t leave your
reward so long!!
Last week in Achievement Assembly we gave out Attendance certificates to the children who had the
best attendance last year in each year group. Well done to these children – Mia (R) Amelia (Y1) Jack
(Y2) Lexi (Y3) Matthew and Mickey (Y4) and Oliver and Josh (Y5). Jack also got a certificate for 100%
attendance for last year.
Please can we remind parents of the importance of regular attendance in school and ask that you
avoid taking family holidays during term time.
AFTER SCHOOL
Parents are reminded that the gates to the playground are unlocked at 3.05pm as the playground is used
for P.E. lessons and playtimes until then. It would be helpful if parents arriving early at school could park
in any available spaces before starting to queue infront of the playground gates. In order to prevent
queuing onto the main road please arrive at school after 3 o’ clock.
MRS VISE’S MAGIC MOMENT
It was lovely to see Mrs O’Donovan sitting on the floor in the hall with a group of Y1 children doing
guided reading this morning. Everybody was very engaged and joining in with their reading. Mrs Fiddes
was also in the hall leading an exciting phonics session which the children were loving. Mrs Fiddes and
Mrs O’Donovan are working very hard under Mrs Howard’s direction to support the Y1 children in their
transition from Ruby class - we know it’s a big step moving up from Reception to Y1. As I have walked
round the school this week I have been very impressed with the energy and commitment of the Sapphire
Class staff and the focus of the Y1 children!
MACMILLAN CAKE SALE
Next Friday (September 25th) in the school hall, 2.30 – 4.00pm. Please send in cakes if you can on the
morning of Friday 25th September. More information to follow.
