HEADTEACHER’S WEEKLY NEWS Week ending: Friday 27th March 2015 Y6 MUSIC FESTIVAL/MRS VISE’S MAGIC MOMENT I would like to say a big thank you to the Y6 children and Miss Pottrill for a wonderful evening at the Rhodes Centre on Thursday night. It certainly was a VERY magical moment!! Our school performed in the Y6 Music Festival alongside children from Mandeville, Reedings and High Wych – the theme for this year was World Peace. During the first half of the performance each school presented their own item relating to peace aswell as singing some songs all together. The thirteen children representing Spellbrook sang “When Children rule the World” from “Whistle down the Wind”. Not only was their singing amazing; but to introduce it three of them – Brooke, Samuel L, and Max read their speeches about what they would do if they were in charge of the world. I know I am biased, but I have to say, the standard of our performance was undoubtedly the highlight of the evening!! For the second half of the evening the children from all four schools performed “Missing Peace” – a cantata written especially for the music festival and the words were very thought provoking and reflected the subject of peace and harmony from the children’s point of view. As I said in my closing speech at the end of the evening the standard of singing and the children’s behaviour and enthusiasm from all four schools was a credit to the hard work of the staff involved. Thank you again to Miss Pottrill. SCHOOL DINNERS To make life as easy as possible for Ms Blackham, our new cook manager, please return the letter that asks you to indicate your child’s dinner pattern to the school office by the end of this term. We are finding it increasingly difficult to ensure the right number of school dinners are being cooked and keep within budgets due to parents chopping and changing their child’s meal arrangements without prior notice. GYMNASTICS Children from Emerald and Sapphire represented the school at a Sports Partnership gymnastics event this week. The KS2 team finished 4th and the KS1 team finished 5th with everyone performing really well. A special mention to Amber in Y4 who got the highest score of the morning!! Well done to all our gymnasts. CROSS COUNTRY Children from Y1 and Y2 took part in a cross country race at Leventhorpe on Wednesday. Thank you to all the parents who turned out to watch your children running. Again everyone tried really hard – but a special well done to Lenny & Ella in Y2 and Ronnie & Lauren in Y1. FOOTBALL Well done to our football team – they had their first victory this week – beating Mandeville 3-2. Well done to Harry for scoring a hat trick!! Let’s maintain our success in the final match after Easter!! KS1 MATHS On Wednesday Mrs Hammond organised a maths challenge for Y2 children from four schools. She invited pupils from Albury, Furneux Pelham and Much Hadham to work on activities around place value. Ella and Jack represented Spellbrook and enjoyed working with the children from other schools. TRAINEE TEACHERS Next week will be Miss Lourenco’s last week with us – she will be going back to Windhill21 Primary School after Easter.
