Passionate about sexual heath education? Interested in giving sexual education presentations to members of the UofT community and beyond or helping with SEC events? Then the SEC External Education Team wants YOU for the 201516 year! Ex Ed provides an opportunity for SEC volunteers to be part of a team that gives educational presentations, performs community outreach, and facilitates events all throughout the year. Commitment is very flexible as we leave it up to you to sign up for presentations and events. No experience necessary. There is a mandatory training session/refresher for all 2015-16 Ex Ed volunteers. Date TBA. If you’re interested in being a part of the 2015-16 Ex Ed team, please carefully read the following description of team duties and fill out our application form based on what you are realistically available for. Presentations Scattered throughout the year and with both large and small groups from a variety of backgrounds both on- and off-campus, presentations are just one facet of what the ex ed team does. Great presenters are enthusiastic, team-oriented, and are devoted to inclusive environments. Presenters must assure that ALL people feel that they are welcome to ask questions without fear of criticism. In addition, presenters must walk the fine line between peers and professionals, as they aim to be approachable, fun, and real, but must remember the boundaries of representing a health service provider on campus. If you have a flexible schedule, enjoy public speaking or would like to develop your skills, and are able to communicate professionally even in unprofessional situations, then this job is for you! Logistics: -Meet 60 minutes early as a team at the office -Make sure everything is in the correct suitcase -Be at presentations 5-10 minutes early -Keep in touch with all other presenters and ex ed executives (Rowan and Mika) -Go back to office as a team to drop off suitcase and fill out presentation report log Tabling Tabling occurs fewer times throughout the year, but is equally as important for gathering emails on our service-user list, spreading information about what SEC does and our upcoming events, and above all maintaining a professional image and relationship to service users on- and off-campus. While all SEC volunteers have the opportunity to table, it is a vital part of external education, and may be the job for you if you like meeting new people in large event environments both on- and off-campus! Logistics: -Meet 60 minutes early as a team at the office -Make sure everything is in correct suitcase and all “extra” props, décor, or banners are also assembled -Be at tabling venue 5-10 minutes early -At end of shift, if necessary, go back to office to drop off suitcase -Keep in touch with all other tablers and ex ed executives (Rowan and Mika) Events SEC runs many events throughout the year. Some events are ongoing (i.e. occur once a month), while others are stand-alones or part of a designated event week (see “Sexual Awareness Week”). Many of our events are in collaboration with other groups, both on- and off-campus, while others are the work of UTSEC alone. Event facilitators have the least ‘structured’ job of the external education team; when facilitating events, it is expected that you aid set up, clean up, or anything else that needs doing. This can mean tabling during events, greeting attendees, attending to presenter needs, but it can also mean other duties based on the event you’ll be facilitating. Events are signed up for on a case-by-case basis; that is, before you sign up to help with an event, you’ll know exactly what will happen and roughly what you’ll be expected to help with. Event facilitation requires a friendly, but professional face, good team-working skills, and the ability to think on your feet. If this sounds like you, then event facilitation may be for you! Sexual Awareness Week Sexual Awareness Week, or “SAW,” is our big number! Happening the first week of February 2016, SAW is a week of diverse events run by SEC volunteers and non-SEC groups. In the past, we’ve run an asexuality workshop, a kink 101 and 102, and even tantric yoga. SAW is an all-hands-on-deck effort, but generally falls under event facilitation. If you’ve got a skill, we can put it to use! Promo for Events This is an optional in- and extra-office duty, comprising of advertising events and spreading word of what we do through social media. It can be as simple as just pressing ‘share’. If you are interested in any of the above duties, please fill out the following form and submit it to the ex ed executives at utsec.ex.ed@gmail.com; we will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
