Blood Borne Pathogen Presentations:
Instructions for the Schools
Please Make Copies of These Sheets for All Involved,
Principal, Teachers, Media/Librarian, and Custodian. Thanks.
1. The Nursing Students from Westminster College will be doing these programs. The Nursing
Students have been approved by the Salt Lake School District Human Sexuality
Maturation Committee. They have been trained as per state guidelines. They know what
to say and what not to say.
2. THE PRESENTATIONS ARE NOT OPTIONAL! You do not invite parents to these presentations.
This program is not like the Maturation Program, where you send out invitations. Parents
are welcome to come and observe, however. If parents have any questions about the
Curriculum and what the presenters will be saying, have them go to the Salt Lake City
School District home page, click on Departments, click on Health services, and scroll
down to Blood Borne Pathogens.
3. The Presentations are for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes. The curriculum is the same
for the 3rd and 4th graders. The curriculum is the same for the 5th and 6th graders. Each
program takes about an hour. We will need the auditorium, multipurpose room, or
library. It is easier for the presenters to set up in one place than to set up and take down
several times. The nurses can be in your school for the entire day.
4. PLEASE, ALL TEACHERS MUST STAY WITH THEIR CLASSES!! Please ask your teachers to
actively listen and take care of discipline problems. The presenters have enough to do to
prepare and teach. Don’t ask the nurses to do “Crowd Control” also. We have had
situations where students have gone home and reported incorrectly what was taught.
We need a teacher to verify what was actually taught.
5. Please …..The presenters will need the following in place at the beginning of their
presentations:

Ask your custodian and media coordinator to set up all equipment.
Ask them to plug in equipment, not just roll equipment into the auditorium or presentation
area.
Have them test to see that all equipment is functional.
Don’t ask the presenters to go and round this stuff up or run around trying to find
extension cords and/or find where the outlets are or if there is power going to that outlet.
