Dear Parents and Guardians,
Junior School Theatre Visit: The BFG, Octagon Theatre
I am writing to tell you about a forthcoming visit which your son/daughter is invited to attend on Wednesday,
2nd December. The venue for this visit is the Octagon Theatre, Bolton. The primary aim of this visit is to enjoy
a Junior School outing together towards the end of a very busy term. This will also supplement their everincreasing skills and confidence when it comes to public speaking, as they will see first-hand how the
professionals conduct themselves in front of a live audience.
The coach will leave school at 09:00. We will be back at school by 13:30. The party will number 160 pupils. I
will be leading and supervising the visit with assistance from the Junior School Form Teachers, our two
Teaching Assistants, Mrs Bamber, Mrs Blakemore and three additional adult helpers. We will be with the
children for the entirety of the visit. The risks associated with the visit have been assessed in accordance
with school policy. During the visit normal school rules regarding acceptable conduct and behaviour will apply,
this includes wearing school uniform.
Due to the requirement of a 1:6 ratio of adults:children in Year 3 and 1:15 in Years 4 - 6, we will need
an additional three adult helpers. I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your support as a
volunteer to accompany us on this trip. Please indicate your availability on the attached reply slip.
I will be taking the school’s mobile phone (07957 700 045) with me for use in case of an emergency. Mrs
Tighe will act as the emergency contact at school and can be contacted on 01254 686311.
A charge of approximately £14 is being made for the visit. This will be available for you to view and pay via
your Scopay account in due course. A school packed meal will be provided on their return to school. Please
ensure that they still bring their healthy break time snack and water bottle. Should you wish, your child has
the option to enjoy a raspberry ripple ice cream during the interval. Please indicate on the reply slip, and
include a cash payment of £0.50, if you would like them to receive this refreshment.
In cases of hardship it may, under certain strict conditions, be possible for the school to subsidise the trip but
this will mean that personal financial information would be required. If you wish to discuss this, please contact
me as a matter of urgency.
Hopefully this letter provides the information you need. If you require any further information, please contact
me at school. Please return the attached consent form to your child’s form teacher via your son/daughter no
later than Tuesday, 17th November.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Kirsten O’Donoghue
