Junior Beta Community Service Ideas January 2010 Ideas from Mrs. Abts (Science Teacher): These can be done with parent supervision anytime after school! 1. Pick up branches, sticks, trash, etc that is on the trail or playground (pile up branches in brush piles in woods as that is good habitat for critters) 2. Put Vaseline INSIDE the ceiling roof of all bird houses to get rid of wasps (They will need an adult to help with this). 3. Water plants in the outside gardens once a week 4. Walk all playground and trail areas to let us know about vandalism and needed repairs 5. Water and stir up the compost piles (they will need an adult to supervise) 6. Fill all birdfeeders outside once a week Ideas from Mrs. Williams (counselor): 1. We need help hanging posters for the upcoming can drive (can be done after school – needs approval from Mrs. Page) 2. Write announcements for the morning show that remind the student body about bringing in cans, also remind them the dates of the can drive. (This could include jokes or poetry). (This needs approval from Mrs. Page.) 3. We need help packing boxes. If you are interested let Mrs. Page know and I let you know the dates when I get that information. Suggestions from The National Beta Club: 1. The National Junior Beta Club at Lacey’s Spring School recently sponsored a pet food drive. A “paws-itively” astounding 850 pounds of dog and cat food was collected and delivered to local animal shelters. A doggone good project to benefit our furry friends! 2. Help a teacher as a “student aid” after school. (If you are interested let Mrs. Page know and she will coordinate this. You will need to arrange to be picked up by 4:00) ADDITIONAL IDEAS COMING SOON…………
