Recommendations:
ClimateSmart, you’re doing an excellent job of recycling. For the types of materials you are recycling we
recommend the following changes:
1. Ask your recycling company if you can combine some of the materials into one bin. For example
you should be able to combine paper and cardboard or possiblly 3 materials into one bin (paper,
cardboard and plastic). This is called single stream or comingled and can help you reduce
pickups, reduce the number of bins and reduce your cost to recycle.
2. The size of the bins is quite large for your type of business. You might want to check your bins
for 2 weeks and see if you need such large bins. Tip: Find out which days of the week your
recycling is picked up and check the bins the night before. You want the bins to be at least 80%
full.
3. As an office you likely generate items like toner cartridges, e-waste and batteries. Consider
setting up a program to recycle these items. Contact your recycling company about these items.
