Lifespan Religious Education (LRE) Council Purpose: To serve the Fellowship’s mission by supporting the effort by UUFT to offer vital and inviting options for religious education with emphasis on Unitarian Universalism’s seven Foundational Principles. Who is Served: Members, friends, children and youth of all ages Responsibilities: Work with religious education groups and the Director of Religious Education (DRE) to set program priorities that fulfill the mission and long range plan of the Fellowship. Formulate goals and objectives for the religious education program in collaboration with the DRE. Assist the work of the DRE in a meaningful and visible way. Serve as a sounding board for religious education concerns and provide a forum for discussion and resolution of issues in the operation of the various religious education groups. Support the effort by which religious education needs are included in the annual and ongoing budget process. Assist the DRE in conjunction with the minister in establishing the DRE’s annual professional development goals. Assist the DRE to maintain communication with the total church community, parents and guardians regarding activities. Administrative Tasks: The LRE Council will be involved with the routine business aspects of the relationship between the DRE and Fellowship including keeping the DRE job description current. The LRE Council will negotiate and make recommendations in terms of salary and benefits to the Board as part of the annual budget process. The DRE supervisor will conduct an annual evaluation of the DRE in conjunction with the LRE Council, Board and lay leaders. The LRE Council Chair will schedule monthly meetings, develop the agenda in coordination with the DRE and Council members, and facilitate the monthly meeting. The LRE Council in conjunction with the DRE will prepare an annual report of activities. The LRE Council in conjunction with the DRE will prepare and maintain an annual calendar. Membership and Organization The LRE Council shall consist of the following members: Chair of the LRE Council (appointed by the President in consultation with the Minister and the DRE) Preferably, the Chair of the LRE Council should have prior experience on the LRE Council. Teacher representative (appointed by the RE teachers) Adult RE representative (appointed by the LRE Chair) Parent representative (appointed by the DRE) At-large member (appointed by the LRE Chair in consultation with the DRE) Board liaison (current Board member appointed by the President in consultation with the Minister and DRE) Minister (ex-officio, non-voting) DRE (ex-officio, non-voting) Whenever possible, appointments shall be for two years with staggered terms to maintain continuity.
