Postdoctoral Researcher Structural Biology of Protein Assemblies Ref: NUIG 106-15 Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for this full-time fixed term position as a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Peter Crowley at the School of Chemistry, National University of Ireland, Galway. The position is available from 1st November 2015 until the contract end date of 31st October 2018, subject to an initial one year probationary period. This position is funded by Science Foundation Ireland. Job Description: The project is ambitious and requires a highly-motivated structural biologist who will develop new methods of protein assembly. For examples of recent work see McGovern et al. Nature Chemistry 2012 and Angew. Chem. 2015. You will use structural biology / biophysical methods to characterize protein-small molecule complexes and assemblies. You will be expected to contribute to the scientific output of the Crowley lab by publishing high quality papers and by presenting data at international meetings. You will contribute to the Crowley lab management through project leadership and the supervision of undergraduate / postgraduate students. Essential Criteria: You will have a PhD in structural biology or a related discipline, a strong academic record and at least 3 years of proven experience in protein purification and biophysics. The ability to characterize proteins by X-ray crystallography and/or NMR spectroscopy is essential. Previous experience in the use of other biophysical techniques (SEC-MALS, ITC, SAXS etc.) will be advantageous. Applicants should be passionate about research and have a publication record including at least one first author paper. You will have strong communication skills and be able to work in a multidisciplinary, international team.
