Volunteer Position Description Position: Cultural Resource Assistant Assigned Tasks: Talbot Islands State Parks is home to a number of important cultural sites, including numerous Native American shell rings and the remains of Plantation and Recreation period structures. The volunteer will provide assistance with managing these cultural resources. Primary duties include conducting site visits at documented cultural resource sites within the park, completing inspection forms for each site, and taking photos of current conditions following established procedures. Data to be collected includes evidence of human and environmental impacts (e.g., vandalism or weather) and management activities undertaken while conducting site visits. Secondary duties include routine cultural resource maintenance (e.g., vegetation removal, herbicide treatment, debris clean up) and data entry, as needed. Supervisor: Park Services Specialist Hours Required: Approximately 8 hours per week. A commitment of 1-4 months per year is necessary. Qualifications & Skills: This is a field position. The volunteer must be in good physical condition and be able to work outside in strenuous conditions for long periods of time in the heat. The ability to read and navigate using maps, knowledge of the basic operations of GPS and digital camera is also desirable. Standards & Performance: Standards and performance will be discussed upon selection. Performance is based on the volunteer meeting the job description qualifications and skills as well as additional duties assigned by supervisor. Volunteer will report to supervisor at the beginning of each shift. A time sheet record of contributed hours is also required. A volunteer uniform, in accordance with the agency volunteer uniform guidelines, is to be worn when contributing volunteer hours. Version: 06/04/12
