Responsibilities of the Saturday Maths Scheme Administrator Southwark Community Education Council runs a number of schemes on Saturdays for children within Southwark schools. Up to 11 Southwark primary schools are involved within each scheme and they enrol suitable students to attend throughout the relevant year groups. A Year 3 Literacy Scheme is hosted at JAGS, a Year 6 Scheme at Dulwich College and it is the Year 5 Maths Scheme (for Gifted and Talented students) that Alleyn’s Junior School hosts. The children are a group of c.30 – 33 highly motivated, keen and interested 9 and 10 year olds from local schools. They arrive on Saturdays from 10.00am. Classes run from 10.30am until 11.30am when they have a half hour break, then they complete the last half hour and are picked up at 12.30pm. The children are taught by three experienced maths tutors. Alleyn’s Senior school students (mainly year 11) act as Mentors (this element is co-ordinated by Natalie Demain) and they help and support the children in the classrooms and throughout the morning. Duties The Saturday Maths Scheme Administrator will provide administrative and general support to the scheme. In particular the role holder will: Liaise with SCEC over general organisation. Set up activities/games and puzzles at the start of each morning in the library for the children as they arrive. Act as the front of house person – meeting and greeting children and taking registration. Report on any frequent absentees. Keep clear records of all children and their contact and medical details. Ensure up to date records of the tutors schemes of work are kept. Produce end of year certificates/references for mentors and students. Prepare the two standard NFER assessment materials (in October and May), collating the scores and standardizing the data for analysis Regularly check and maintain resources, equipment and games. Re-stock resources as and when necessary. Liaise with the Treasurer. Produce a brief termly report for SCEC meetings, AGM etc Liaise with Alleyn’s Senior School staff re. the mentors and their duties and responsibilities. Liaise with Alleyn’s security staff re. mid-morning refreshments, access or safety issues etc. Maintain clear boundaries on discipline and a general code of conduct within the school premises. Be aware of the School’s Health & Safety Policy. In conjunction with all staff of the School, support, promote and act within the School’s Safeguarding Policy. Line Management The Saturday Maths Scheme Administrator is managed on day to day basis by the Head of Co-Curricular and is ultimately responsible to the Bursar. The Saturday Maths Scheme Administrator will liaise with SCEC staff over general organisation. You will be supported each week by 3 experienced maths tutors who will teach the pupils and a member of staff from the Junior/Senior School may provide additional support as necessary. The Candidate Please note that this position is available to internal candidates only The successful applicant will have first-rate IT skills in all MS Office applications, clear communication skills and a welcoming manner. They will also possess excellent listening skills and the ability to work flexibly, to cope with the shifting demands of the Saturday sessions. Ideally candidates will have experience of working in a school or experience of working with children. Interviews Interviews will be conducted at the School. Terms and Conditions The job is available for 17 Saturday sessions during the Advent and Lent terms. Hours of work are Saturdays from 10.00am to 1.00pm. There is a two-thirds fee remission (pro-rata for part time) for children of members of staff attending Alleyn’s Senior and Junior Schools, subject to meeting the admissions criteria, and which is a non-taxable benefit. There is also some fee remission available at Dulwich College and James Allen’s Girls’ School, though the terms and conditions are different and it is a taxable benefit. The salary will be in the region of £1,500 per annum based on relevant experience, and will be paid over twelve monthly instalments. On completion of the required recruitment checks, the post would be available to the successful candidate from October or at the completion of their due term of notice.
