The Duties of the School Archives Intern This job supports a project that Alleyn’s school is launching in the Advent term 2015 which allows pupils to research the service histories and biographies of pupils and staff who fought in WW1. The purpose of this job is to research and locate the archive sources that the pupils will need to undertake their project, and to prepare learning resources for them. In particular the role holders will: Use the school archives to research the names of Alleyn’s former pupils and staff of military age in 1914 and to record their names on an Excel spreadsheet. Use the Ancestry website to locate corresponding service records and census records for these old boys and staff and add these details to the spreadsheet. Print and prepare the discovered records as a pupil learning resource for classroom use in Advent Term 2015. Undertake basic archive listing tasks if time allows. Undertake any other tasks commensurate with the level of the post as directed by the Archivist. Line Management The School Archives interns will be supervised on a day-to-day basis by the School Archivist and will be ultimately responsible to the Bursar. The Candidates The ideal candidates for these two identical, part time, paid, intern positions will be post A’level candidates, possibly just having completed their A levels or part way through a university degree. Graduates who wish to pursue a career in heritage who need pre MA course work experience are also welcome to apply. The ideal candidates will have: A proven interest in History A familiarity with basic MS Office programmes, namely Internet Explorer, Word and Outlook. Training in basic Excel can be provided. The ability to work unsupervised Good time management and teamwork skills. A keenness to learn heritage and workplace skills. Terms and Conditions The jobs are part time, working Tuesdays and Wednesday 9am – 5pm and will be available from mid July 2015 for between 4 and 6 weeks (fixed term). The remuneration for these positions is £6.50 per hour.
