The Responsibilities of the Humanities Technician The aim of the Humanities Technician is to support the work of the academic departments to which they may be assigned. This will involve general administrative work, preparing material for lessons and managing departmental resources. In particular the role-holder will: Provide support as required in the Classics, Geography and RS Departments. Provide administration to the Classics, Geography and RS Departments,to include photocopying, scanning, laminating students’ work and articles, managing electronic storage of key documents, updating of the tracking system and maintaining the DVD collections. Collate paperwork and use Schoolbase to support educational visits and/including trips abroad. Read the Radio Times and produce TV viewing recommendations, manage magazine subscriptions, maintain stationery supplies, photograph students’ work and provide a secretarial function. Help teachers with the use of ICT and software including Schoolbase. Keep the storerooms and offices tidy. Maintain textbook collections, keep records of which books have been issued to which pupils, inform Heads of Departments when numbers are running short. Help maintain the public areas and support the teachers in maintaining displays in their classrooms. Research academic materials and look up articles for teaching. Update and manipulate the sublect specific databases. Provide support to other departments as directed. Be aware of the School’s Health & Safety Policy. In conjunction with all staff of the School, support, promote and act within the School’s Safeguarding Policy. Any additional duties, as directed by the Heads of Department, which are within the reasonable capability and responsibility of the Humanities Technician. Line Management The Humanities Technician is managed on a day to day basis by the Heads of Department and is ultimately responsible to the Bursar. The Candidate The successful candidate will be capable of working to a flexible timetable and will have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills are required as is the ability to build up a professional relationship with colleagues and pupils. The successful candidate will have experience of, and be proficient in working with MS Office packages, including MS Excel. Previous experience of working in a School or with children is desirable. Interviews Interviews will be conducted at the School. This will consist of interviews with the Heads of Department and the Bursar and may involve an aptitude assessment test. Terms and Conditions The post is part time (working 3 days/22.5 hours per week) term time only. The salary will be £13,656 per annum (pro rata of £30,656). The successful candidate will be based at the School and normal working hours will be 8:00am – 4:00pm. Founder’s Day is held on a Saturday in June or July and is a normal working day, as are School Open Days. There is a two-thirds fee remission (pro-rata for part time) for children of members of staff attending Alleyn’s Senior and Junior Schools, subject to meeting the admissions criteria, and which is a non-taxable benefit. There is also some fee remission available at Dulwich College and James Allen’s Girls’ School, though the terms and conditions are different and it is taxable benefit. The role holder will have access to, and may be automatically enrolled into, the School’s Group Personal Pension Plan. This plan provides for matching 5% contributions from the employer and employee and is currently run through Scottish Widows. The post would be available to the successful candidate on completion of the necessary safeguarding checks or at the completion of their due term of notice. The post is permanent following successful completion of a three month probationary period.
