Algebra 2b Mr. Lewis Class Syllabus/Classroom Rules 2015-2016 Course Outline This course will follow closely the Common Core State Standards traditional pathway for Algebra 2, allowing room for needed differentiation. It will build on previous work with linear, quadratic, and exponential functions. It directly follows the previous Algebra 2a course. The course will be broken down into 4 critical areas/units. They are as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. Polynomial, Rational, and Radical relationships Trigonometric Functions Modeling with Functions Inferences and Conclusions from Data PASSING THIS COURSE IS A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT!!! Attendance Policy Tardy Policy This class will follow the attendance policy outlined in the student handbook pages. Specifically from page 8 under Make-Up Work: “Homework assigned prior to an absence is due on the first day of return from absence… Any other make up work is to be completed in as many days as the length of the absence.” Note that excessive absence may affect the participation portion of one’s grade. As per the student handbook, being Tardy to class four times will result in ALC. It is important to understand that being more than a few minutes tardy to class will result in discipline for an unauthorized area Classroom Environment/Discipline Procedure Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy – CELL PHONE PUT AWAY AND OFF One of the most crucial aspects in a successful classroom is respect. Respect among students to each other is expected as and lack of will not be accepted. Respect between students and staff is also expected. Most discipline actions will be as follows: As per the student handbook page 20 under electronic devices – “Personal listening devices (excluding cell phones) will be allowed before and after school and during lunch. Use during class or lab time will be only at the direction of the instructor.” 1. 2. 3. 4. Verbal Warning Lunch Detainment Write Up Office Referral Hall Pass/Restroom Procedure The classroom hall pass will be each individual student’s handbook. Failure to possess one’s handbook could result in an inability to leave class. Direction of Mr. Lewis – Students may listen to music (excluding cell phones) by FIRST requesting permission each and every time AND keeping one ear uncovered. Algebra 2b Mr. Lewis Class Syllabus/Classroom Rules 2015-2016 Folder/Calculator/Book/Pencil Policy – Each student will be assigned a number 1-30. This will be the number for the book, folder, pencil and calculator a student will be responsible for in class. It is the students’ responsibility to alert Mr. Lewis at the beginning of class if their number is missing for any of those items so they will not be responsible. In addition, if a student wishes to borrow a calculator/pencil they will be required to give collateral. The preferred collateral of Mr. Lewis is an ID badge. Folders can be left in the classroom in the boxes on the green filing cabinet. Each period will have their own box and color. Missing Assignments/“Missing Work Order” sheet/Homework Passes As per the student handbook students that have missing assignments or assignments not acceptable by their instructor may be required to complete the assignment during their lunch period in a designated location more commonly referred to as “Catch Up Café” Some homework will be graded on completion basis. Completion in this class will be defined as an honest attempt to complete the problem following the steps shown in class. Once an assignment is late it is no longer eligible for completion based grading. Also at the time a missing assignment is being checked in class or turned in a “Missing Work Order” sheet will have to be completed. Refusal to fill out a “Missing Work Order Sheet” will result in a write up and the appropriate amount of Discipline Points. IF A STUDENT IS ASSIGNED TO ALC IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK FOR THE WORK THEY ARE MISSING IN CLASS THAT DAY. THE ONLY APPROPRIATE TIMES TO ASK FOR ALC WORK ARE BEFORE FIRST PERIOD AND DURING 4th,5th and 6th PERIOD. Feedback Box Grading Policy In a continuing effort to grow as an educator there will be a Feedback box located in the classroom on a daily basis. Any concerns or suggestions can be left there. It can be anonymous, but a student can earn a free homework pass if they complete at least one feedback per week for five weeks. As per the student handbook the grading scale will be as follows: Letter Grade Percentage A B C D F I 92-100 83-91 74-82 65-73 64-Below Incomplete End of Year Cumulative 366-Above 330-365 294-329 258-293 257-Below Incomplete Algebra 2b Mr. Lewis Class Syllabus/Classroom Rules 2015-2016
