Aims This course is designed for 1st year Business Management students and aims to: Develop students' study skills, including awareness of how to manage their own studies Develop students' understanding of the underlying concepts of business and management research Enable to students to have a basic understanding of qualitative and quantitative 'evidence' Develop students' appreciation of the application of business and management research and its role in professional contexts Develop students' appreciation of the role of evidence in presenting and evaluating arguments in academic and non-academic contexts 16. Syllabus The course will cover a range of issues relevant to business management students' core study skills. An indicative syllabus: Underlying research concepts (for example, understanding the role of theory) What constitutes 'evidence'? Identifying sources of evidence Different ways of presenting business management research, for example, journal papers, government reports, company reports.
