If a student is permitted to submit their paper or assignment late, their grade for that assignment will be affected as follows: 1 day late: 10 points deducted from assignment grade. 2 days late: 20 points deducted from assignment grade. 3 days late: 30 points deducted from assignment grade. 4 days late: 40 points deducted from assignment grade. More than 4 days late: Papers or assignments will not be accepted for any reason, and the student will receive an F for that assignment. Class Participation: Class participation is expected of all students. The more participation, the more fun the class becomes! Student’s class participation will be noted, and taken into consideration for the final grade. For example, a student who has a final grade average of a 69, with no class participation would receive a D, but the same student who was always prepared and participated regularly in class discussions, would be “bumped up” to a C. Inclement Weather: If the weather is inclement, and you are not sure if class is being held, you can call my voice mail. I will change my message by 6 am if morning classes are cancelled. Attendance Policy: Grading Scale: The student is expected to attend every class. If you must be absent, it is required that you call and leave me a message on my voice mail…. otherwise the absence will be unexcused. Three unexcused absences and the student will either be withdrawn or failed, at my option. No further warnings will be given. If a student misses a testing class for any reason, or is not in class on the day an assignment is due, the student will not be given a make up exam or the assignment will not be accepted, and the student will be assigned a grade of “0” for the missed test or assignment (unless PRIOR arrangements have been made with me). This grade will not be dropped, and will be averaged in with the other test and assignment grades to define the final grade for the student (as described below under Student Evaluation). If a student is absent, it is the responsibility of the student to make up any missed work or assignments, get any notes, and to be prepared for any announced exams or assignments. A 90-100 B+ 85-89 B 80-84 C+ 75-79 C 70-74 D 65-69 F Below 65 Withdrawal (W) A withdrawal will only be given if the student FORMALLY withdraws from the class, otherwise the student will receive their combined average of any work/tests turned in missing for the entire semester. (Missing work/tests will count as a 0.) Thursday, November 7, 2013 is the last date to withdraw from class. There will be no withdrawals given after this date. Students who stop attending or who are administratively withdraw after 11/07/2013 will be given an F for the class. Evaluation of Student: Outline: Your final grade will be an average of all of your tests and assignments. No extra credit or special assignments will be given. Tests will be announced at least two class days in advance. Major assignments will be announced in Ocean Cruiser at least two days in advance, and will count as a test grade. You will have minor assignments due for selected sections. The minor assignments will be averaged and counted as one test (major) grade. The lowest major grade for a submitted project/test will be dropped, but not any non-submitted grade. The minor grade average is not a candidate for a dropped grade. Homework will be looked at in class, and will not negatively affect your grade. Your assignments, tests, and other information will be posted to the Ocean Cruiser website as designated for this class. Class participation will be considered in determining your final grade as described above in Course Standards. Class participation can only help your grade; it will not be counted against you as a factor in lowering your final average. I am not “Monty Hall” and this is not “Let’s Make a Deal”... there is no bargaining for grades. The grade you earn is the grade you will get. A. Word Processing 1. Creating and Editing a Document a. If there is an unusual circumstance that necessitates the need for a cell phone/beeper to be active during class time, you will need to notify me prior to class and special consideration will be given. Students will be expected to be ready and on time for class. If a student is more than 3 minutes late, the student will be marked as late.
