I am writing to tell you about Dance Marathon, an organization I’m involved in, that supports children and their
families battling pediatric cancer at University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. The causes of most childhood
cancers are unfortunately currently unknown and cannot be prevented. I got involved because I want to help
make a difference and take a stand against cancer right here in Iowa City.
Dance Marathon is one of the largest student-run organizations at the University of Iowa. Over the past 21 years,
Dance Marathon has raised more than 16.5 million dollars to benefit over 700 families who have been treated at
University of Iowa Children’s Hospital Pediatric Oncology Unit. All year long, I have been busy partaking in
events to raise awareness and money for pediatric cancer. On February 5th and 6th, the year culminates with the
24-hour BIG Event to celebrate the children’s fight against cancer and remember those who have lost their battle.
I will not sit, have caffeine, or sleep all in honor of these courageous children battling pediatric cancer.
With your donation, Dance Marathon can provide even more resources for families. Your donation helps pay for
things including:

$11 for a “Cancer Fears Me” chemo cap
$40 for a food and beverage cart for a grieving family
$75 for playtime activities for 12 kids in the hospital
$100 for registering one person on the bone marrow transplant registry
$250 for a wig for one kiddo who has lost their hair
$1,000 for pharmacy medications for one year
$5,000 for funeral expenses for a kiddo now dancing in our hearts
Your donation will not only help get me to the Big Event, but it will also fund projects like the new 11 th floor of
the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital named “The University of Iowa Dance Marathon Pediatric Cancer
Center” after Dance Marathon’s pledge of 5 million dollars, set to open March 2016.
How to Donate
· Donate online: Visit www.dancemarathon.org and click the "Donate Now!" button. A new page will
appear where you will scroll down to the “To a Dancer” section. Click on the “participant list” link. A
new page will load where you will type in my first and last name and click "Search." When you see my
name and profile click on my name. You will be directed to my online giving page where you can click
on "Donate Now" to donate.
· Send a check: I have also enclosed a self-addressed stamped envelope if you prefer to donate this way.
Please make checks payable to UI Dance Marathon and include my name in the memo section so I can get
credit for your generous donation.
