Finding Cures. Providing Support. Saving Lives… One Dancer at a Time. Dear ______ , Every year thousands of families are impacted in some way by cancer. Whether it is a child, cousin, friend, or parent, someone will be affected by cancer at some point in his or her life. 13,5000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in the United States, proving even more that we are in dire need for a cure. We need something that allows every kid to live a normal life and do the thing that most of us take for granted: dance. That is our goal at raiseRED Dance Marathon at the University of Louisville. As an organization, we have a year worth of fundraising events to lead up to our key event, the dance marathon, which is an 18 hour, no sitting, no sleeping, no whining event. Over 700 students participate, and we raise thousands of dollars each year- last year being our biggest year of $226,000 raised. But we couldn’t do it without the help of amazing people like you. This year our goal is to have 850 dancers and $300,000 raised by February 27th. All of the money we raise benefits Doctor Ken Lucas, who works for the University of Louisville Department of Pediatrics. Doctor Lucas is spearheading a lot of groundbreaking research in the field of Pediatric Oncology. Last year we were able to hire a Social Worker with the money that we raised and now the clinic is in desperate need of another social worker to help guide more families through the ever-confusing stages of insurance, medical costs, and lifestyle changes that come with having a child diagnosed with cancer. This year, we hope to fund the hiring of another social worker, as well as giving funds to Doctor Lucas to be used for programming, research, and the fight against Pediatric Cancer. My personal goal is to raise ________ by the end of dance marathon. If you'd like to donate to the cause and me, I wouldn't be able to thank you enough. All of the money will go to help 1) your past, present and future students, as we're the largest student organization at UofL, 2) help UofL in it's research efforts, and 3) put an end to the disease that has caused many people pain and loathing. At the end, the goal is to eradicate pediatric cancer, and we hope to do that one student dancer at a time. To contribute to our cause, please send either cash or check in the envelope included to the address I have provided. We've raised over $800,000 in the past seven years, and we're excited to raise even more for the University of Louisville Pediatrics. Thank you for your donations, and I hope you have a Happy New Year! Gratefully, _________________
