Re: Summer Internship Opportunity

Please announce to your students who will be completing their second or third professional years that Geisinger Medical Center in Danville , will have four openings for summer internships in hospital/clinical pharmacy practice for next summer.

This summer internship program is designed as primarily an educational opportunity. Interns will be given the opportunity to rotate through the various pharmacy practice sites. These will include the pharmacist run anticoagulation clinic; decentralized practices on patients care units

(Hematology/Oncology, Critical Care, Cardiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Medical and

Surgical areas), pediatric satellite, operating room satellite, antimicrobial management and ambulatory care activities (both distributive and clinical). Educational opportunities include medical conferences, grand rounds, DUE project, research/self-study, participation in pharmacist staff development activities and a presentation to pharmacist staff. Interns will attend committee meetings, spend a day in the operating room observing surgical procedures and make rounds with the pharmacists and medical staff. I have attached a sample schedule for the student’s reference.

This is a paid position, which runs for a fixed period of 13 weeks over the summer. This is not a pharmacy technician position. The goal of this program is to expose the students to various aspects of pharmacy practice in the distributive and clinical arenas. The position is open to all interested students, who have completed their second or third professional year. Unfortunately housing is not available and will be the summer interns responsibility. Interested students should apply online at http://www.geisinger.org/for-professionals/careers/ under Clinical/Allied Health and look for “Pharmacy Intern”. All applications should be received no later than December 18,

2015. If there are questions the students can contact my assistant Sandra Moyer at the phone number or e-mail address listed below. Everyone who completes the online application will be sent an additional Internship questionnaire, and qualifying individuals will be invited to come for an interview on December 29, 2015. All applicants will be notified about the final decision by the end of January 2016
