The aim of this module is to equip students:
 To critically examine the issue of context in pastoral care with particular
reference to biblical narrative, historical context, culture and
specialised areas of care
 To promote reflection on the relationships between faith, person,
experience church and theology
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to
1. Define Pastoral Care and describe what constitutes it’s core elements and apply key concepts of
pastoral care to specific contexts and populations, i.e. hospital, school, parish
2. Reflect on how pastoral care draws on insights from both theological and non-theological
disciplines
3. Have enhanced ability to integrate pastoral experience with theological understanding
4. Analyse pastoral care in a contemporary context and be able to discuss critically issues relating to
selected areas of Christian ministry
5. Develop personal and inter-personal leadership skills appropriate to particular areas of
contemporary Christian life and ministry
