Postdoctoral Researcher /Research Associate SATIN Trial

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position as a
Postdoctoral Researcher SATIN Trial (Symptomatic or Antibiotic Treatment of urinary tract
INfections) with General Practice, School of Medicine at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
This position is funded by Health Research Board and is available for a three year contract period.
Information on the Irish Primary Care Trials Network
Primary care accounts for 90% of all patient health care contacts, with more than twenty million
annual individual consultations in Ireland alone. The HRB report Irish Primary Care R&D (Mant,
2006) noted ‘the need for a firm evidence base is as great in primary as in hospital care... and must
in part be obtained by R&D in primary care’.
The aim of the new € 2.5 million Irish Primary Care Trials Network, funded by the Health Research
Board, is to establish a creative and sustainable environment for high quality primary care trials that
improve individual patient health and healthcare.
Network activities will deliver i) access and support to those interested in conducting trials in Irish
primary care, including industry ii) multidisciplinary trial education, mainly through existing
resources, for all those interested in primary care trials.
Job Description:
This person will be the project manager for the SATIN trial and will work closely with the study PI Dr
Akke Vellinga. He/she will be responsible for the daily management of the trial which includes the
application for ethical approval, administration, the development of an app, recruitment and training
of general practitioners, recruitment of patients, data collection, interpretation of the analysis and
report writing.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a proven track record in Health Services Research/Population Health
research, ideally in general practice and/or infectious disease research.
Applicants should have a relevant Ph.D. or equivalent experience in research (min 4 years) in a
related health science.
Candidates must have excellent communication and organizational skills, be highly motivated and
passionate about research and its contribution to society and possess strong documentation, oral
and interpersonal skills.
Experience in management of RCTs, familiarity with the EU clinical trials directive and data
management and analysis skills are desirable.
Salary: €37,750 - €41,181 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)
