Julia Buescher, Vice President of Western Activities Council a. This week WAC has a co-sponsorship event with Spanish Club Tami Trio Tango starting at 6pm in upstairs Blum. b. Chris Distefano a writer and actor on Girl Code/Guy Code will be performing after the homecoming event in Looney on October 23. B. Lionel Attawia, Student Governor a. The Board of Governor’s passed to refund the tuition increase. It’s hard to say how you will be refunded. If you have questions on how this is working contact Amy Parnell. copeland@missouriwestern.edu is her email. Be sure to keep up with email though. That is how they are getting all of the information out to the students. C. Sky Lux, Director of Finance a. Financial Over-Sight Committee (FOC) funded Shotgun Club to go to a competitive event and a student to go teach at a conference. D. Jacob Dowell, Director of Student Relations a. The new student Handbook says that for an organization to remain an RSO it must keep a five person membership. We should be looking in our constitution and by-laws to make sure they will match with the handbook. b. Tweet challenge Tuesday through next Monday. First question is, “What is your favorite place to study” E. Ida Haefner, Director of Communications a. No report F. Tyler O’Neill, Executive Vice President of SGA a. This weekend Daniel and I went to a conference in St. Louis for the Annual National Leadership Conference on Student Government. We had a bunch of workshops that we attended and have given us ideas that we would like to start setting up. b. I want to start an initiative for better communication. I would like to have a meeting with all the senators. c. Absences need to be notified by Friday. Committee meetings are required by attendance as well. IV. President’s Report A. Senator of the Month is Brian Shewell! He will be in the Griffon News this week. B. This weekend was a blast. Next year I would like to see more of the E-Board going to this conference. V. Committee Reports A. Haden McDonald, Chair of Governmental Relations Committee i. Had a full committee meeting with all of the committee members. ii. We are working on pursuing the Judicial Branch idea. iii. Transparency in SGA: We are going to try to make SGA a bigger face on campus. We would like to be able to post all of the information on a bulletin board. B. Brian Shewell, Chair of Campus Advancement Committee i. Joint Committee meeting tonight ii. Working on getting progress reports from everyone. iii. There will be a committee meeting next week iv. I sat in on the Master Planners meeting last week and it was interesting C. Reyhan Wilkinson, Chair of Homecoming Committee i. We have flyers going up that will have all of the Homecoming events listed. Homecoming is next weekend! Get Excited!! VI. VII. Unfinished Business A. Rules suspended New Business A. FY15-32: Resolution to Confirm Appointment of New Senator; DaVion Huey i. Senator Samenus: Did you have any previous leadership positions? ii. Huey: Yes; in high school iii. Governor Attawia: If you had one word to describe you what would it be? iv. Huey: Chill v. Senator Wilkinson: You are a soft spoken person. Do you think you’ll be able to get the job done? vi. Huey: I was in debate in high school, so I do know how to get my point across and speak up. vii. viii. ix. x. VIII. Senator Greer: What would you change about Missouri Western? Huey: The students’ involvement at MWSU. Senator Shewell: What will you bring to the table? Huey: I’m a freshmen and plan on being here for a while. I believe that this will give me a good opportunity to get involved and make sure we are doing what the students want. xi. Vice-President Buescher: Huey is in WAC and he always gets the job done even though he is quiet. xii. Moved Senator Wilkinson; Senator McDonald Seconded xiii. Approved xiv. Rules Reinstated B. FY15-33: Bill to approve MWSU French Club RSO C. FY15-34: Bill to approve MWSU Creative Writing Club RSO. i. Senator McDonald: I yield to Senator Shewell to talk about French club. ii. Senator Shewell: I am a member and was wondering what just happened and why there was no discussion. iii. Vice-President O’Neill: I was trying to get in the habit of it is first reading, so technically we are just supposed to read through the NOAs. Open Discussion A. Senator Stanton: Can we talk a little about the new structure? I believe we should do a little discussion on first reading, even if we keep it under five minutes. Sometimes in first reading discussion we find things that need to be changed when we start a discussion. B. Senator Shewell: I agree with Senator Stanton. C. Vice-President O’Neill: I will go back to this for the next meeting. D. Director Dowell: I had a meeting with the committee that goes over the RSO applications that come through. Isaiah found that in the Student Handbook each organization must have 5 members, but not maintain this. SGA should be consistent within our bylaws. We understand that there are some organizations that have different rules when it comes to membership drives. NPHC makes it difficult for a sorority or fraternity to come back to a campus once it has been taken away. So that is something we are considering. IX. Closed Session X. Announcements A. B. C. D. E.
