January 19, 2016 Dear Senator: On behalf of more than 160,000 Americans for Prosperity-Florida activists, I urge you to support S.B. 212, relating to recovery care services, when it is voted on today in the Health Policy Committee. This vote will be recorded in our 2016 session legislative scorecard. S.B. 212, sponsored by Senator Gaetz, would allow patients to stay overnight at ambulatory surgical centers. This is a measure that will decrease the costs of elective, non-invasive surgeries, while also improving patient outcomes. Ambulatory surgical centers are already regulated by state law, and are required to maintain a service agreement with a nearby hospital in the event of an emergency. This bill would change none of these safeguards. However, it will provide physicians additional flexibility in making the best decisions for the health of their patients, and will expand the types of surgeries it is possible to do at these facilities, which are lower cost and experience lower infection rates than the same procedures at traditional hospitals. It is for these reasons that I ask for your favorable support of S.B. 212. Sincerely, Skylar Zander Deputy State Director for Florida Americans for Prosperity Cc: Senate President Andy Gardiner Senator Don Gaetz P.O. Box 185 | Tallahassee, FL 32302 | AFPFlorida.com
