 Quizzes are unscheduled but we will normally have at least one per day. If you come in late and
miss a quiz, you will not be permitted to take the quiz. Your final grade will be reduced by 10%
if you miss 5 or more quizzes.
 Excused absences require prior notice and an excuse from the Dean’s office. In an emergency,
contact me as soon as possible for arrangements.
 Bring your lab manual every day, and also have a way to take lab notes.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: I expect each of you to work independently unless specifically
instructed otherwise, and to adhere to the College of Charleston Honor System as described in the
Student Handbook. There will be a lot of collaborative work in this class, but each of you remains
responsible for your own learning.
LAB SAFETY: The College of Charleston Lab Safety Policy must be adhered to at all times.
ELECTRONIC DEVICE USE: There will no use of cell phones, texting, tweeting, Facebook, or
any other social media during our class work. If I see you using such, or have credible evidence that
you have, you will leave the class and earn zeros for any further quizzes that day. If it’s near the end
of the day, you will not be allowed to attend class the next day, and will earn zeros for all quizzes that
day. These will count as unexcused absences. It is essential, given the collaborative nature of our
work, for you to be fully engaged with your classmates.
SPECIAL NEEDS: If you will need any special accommodations to complete the requirements for
this course, please contact me as soon as possible.
VERY TENTATIVE SCHEDULE – the order is good, but the content per day may change
