Internships Available in the UNLV University Libraries Special Collections The UNLV University Libraries is hiring five UNLV graduate students to work as interns in Special Collections in summer 2015. Successful candidates are expected to work 20 hours a week MonFri from June 1 to August 7, 2015. Stipend: $4000 for 10 weeks, paid incrementally on the first of each month (beginning July 1). Deadline to apply for the internship is midnight April 19, 2015. Selected candidates will be invited to interview shortly thereafter. Internship 1: Center for Gaming Research (one position) Responsibilities may include: Transcribing oral history interviews with casino pit bosses Editing oral history interviews and researching their creators and context Helping to identify and select excerpts to be used in an edited collection of interviews Internship 2: Special Collections Technical Services (four positions) Responsibilities may include: Surveying archival, photograph, and manuscript collections in Special Collections to identify priorities for conservation, description, and arrangement Researching collections and revising existing descriptions for completeness and compliance with national archival standards Mapping existing collection descriptions to fields in ArchivesSpace, an archival collection management system (CMS) Writing collection descriptions and publishing descriptions to the Web Required qualifications: UNLV graduate student (with interest in history, public history, or gaming preferred) Strong organizational skills Strong written communication skills Strong computer/technology skills Attention to detail Please send résumé and letter of interest via email by midnight April 19th.
