Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Data improvement Volunteer Role Description Role Title: Reports to: Purpose of Role: Data improvement Volunteer (x2) Collections Development Officer To support the Collections team in making the SBT collections accessible, though the creation and improvement of data. Role Background In 2015 the collections department began an exciting project to bring together its three collections (library, museums and archive) into one database and completely redesign how our collections are presented online for the public. Our database of choice is Qi, and comes with a range of new functionality that will improve our ability to access the collections information, but which requires our current data to be improved and some new data to be created. Responsibilities: Tasks may include: Tagging of records and images Making connections and creating relationships between records Creating links between records and relating information and research Upload of images and linking with records. Editing of images for online presentation Producing metadata for images Requirements/Skills: Experience working a collection management system Strong computer literacy with a willingness to train on photo editing software. Ability to work independently. Understanding of copyright would be advantageous. Ability to work well as part of a team Methodical and detail-orientated approach to working Flexible and enthusiastic attitude- adaptable to change Location Initial training and probationary period will be carried out on site at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. As the placement progresses the possibility of remote working or working from home could become possible. Commitment /Length of project or placement: The initial commitment would be for a 10week period beginning mid to late February 2016. A minimum commitment of 1 day a week is required during this period. After the launch of the new website there are ongoing data improvement needs and the role can be extended. Administrative points: Smoking is not allowed on site Food or drink should only be consumed in set areas. Eating and drinking is not allowed in the strong rooms or whilst handling objects/archives.
