Research Assistantship in 'Method development in chemical fingerprinting and
laser-ablation analysis'
The Department of Geology at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and the Irish Centre for
Research in Applied Geosciences immediately seek applicants for a 5-year plus 8month research assistantship in 'Method development in chemical fingerprinting and
laser-ablation analysis '
The research assistant will be supporting research in:
i) geo- and thermochronology by laser-ablation ICP-MS;
ii) trace element mapping by laser-ablation ICP-MS and ICP-OES; and
iii) Quantifying the economic potential of mining historic mine tailings for precious and
energy critical elements.
iCRAG, the new Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences, is funded under
the SFI Research Centres Programme and is co-funded under the European
Regional Development Fund. It is supporting >40 new early career research
opportunities. This appointment is for 68 months. The appointment will be at level 10
of higher. The anticipated start date is May 1st 2015.
Completion of a degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or Geochemistry is essential.
Applicants need to demonstrate experience in all of the following three fields:
Excimer laser based LA-ICP-analysis; maintenance of ICP-MS and/or ICP-OES;
support of clean room geochemistry. The Department has a Thermo iCAP Qs ICPMS and a Spectro ARCOS ICP-OES and operates a Photon Machines Analyte
