Speaker quick makes motion to approve agenda, without objection.

Thanks senators for flexibility.

Tells Senators about much of the agenda being pushed through tonight.

Would like to address the difficulty in the University and the Student Association and talks of the tragedy striking the campus and

Student Association family to appreciate time with everyone’s family.

Talks of Steven Agee and involvement and how many lives he touched.

Talks of how what is important is leaving the legacy.

We need to improve that we are a family and we are a community.

How we can promote ourselves is that we are a huskie family and that we come together as a family.

Elliot Echols, President of the Student Association i.

Proud of the Senate because of how much we do for students. ii.

Senate consistently working and tells how hard it is to be a student leader. iii.

Talks of how Steven Agee was his best friend, great person, and how he will be missed. iv.

Says that his death will not be missed if he died in vain, talks of how Speaker Quick, though not always getting along but have done a great job. v.

This year the Senate has done a great job by asking the right questions and talking to the right people and believes that we have to upkeep a contract between students, NIU, and the Dekalb community. vi.

We may not agree on the way to progress but we have to address that there is a problem. vii.

Talks of how we are blessed that we are still here. viii.

We have a lot of work to do and students need to have a sense of pride and NIU has lost its brand. ix.

Renew that strength back in that task. x.

Its not about what we do now, its about the legacy we leave behind. xi.

As student leaders it is our duty to consistently ask the right questions and do the right things. xii.

SAB43023- A BILL TO AMEND BYLAWS i.

Speaker Quick makes a motion to hear, Senator Grosz seconds. a.

Senator Theodore makes a motion to consider jointly with SAB43025, Senator Maple Seconds b.

Vote to consider jointly passes. ii.

Senator Theodore Wanting to amend bylaws to move the power of the Campus Securities Fund from the finance committee back to the Director of Student Life, made a new committee, the coupling is just to tie up loose ends. iii.

Questions a.

Senator Maple- Question on SAB43023, what does” the application will through the committee with in a 14 week” mean?

Senator Theodore responds that it was a typo with the copy and had no significance with the Bill. iv.

SAR43025- A RESOLUTION TO FORCE PARKING SERVICES TO ENFORCE REGULATION ON UNIVERSITY VEHICLES

Senator Theodore makes a motion to hear this resolution along with SAR43029, as they are related to the same topic,

Senator Theodore talks that they have a policy in place and the enforcement of parking services for university vehicles iv.

Speaker Quick talks that in parking services and replacing cost of sidewalks and shows support of students wanting v.

Senator Grosz asks how is parking services going to enforce it. b.

Speaker Quick says the individual person would be ticketed. c.

Senator Maple expresses concerns that some of the vehicles need to be parked there. d.

Speaker Quick explains that the problem is the leaving of the vehicle. e.

Senator Peritz asks if that would include trucks for Cole Hall?

SAR43026- A RESOLUTION FOR THE UNIVERSITY TO EXPAND THE TEXT ALERT SYSTEM i.

Senator Theodore makes motion to hear SAR43026, Senator Grosz seconds. ii.

Theodore says that the text alert system is promoted and that the text alert system is not used. iii.

Senator Theodore also explains how students feel there is doubt of the effectiveness, and most people just receive test alerts. iv.

Theodore explains that the resolution is advising with text alert system with selective advisories and official alerts v.

Makes sure system is reliable, and people are signed up for it vi.

VOTE SAR43026, SAR43026 passes.

SAR43027- A Resolution to send condolences to Agee family and friends. i.

Senator Peritz makes a motion to hear SAR43027, Senator Young seconds. ii.

Speaker Quick reads the resolution verbatim. iii.

In honor of Steven, holds a moment of silence. iv.

Considering the nature of the Resolution, is there anyone that would like to make a statement. v.

Senator Black, We talk about unity and in honor of encouraging to let them know the impact they have made. vi.

Senator Okesenajo, He was a good guy, and was at the party just take this as a lesson to respect each other. vii.

Delonte Leflore, had the honor to work with Steve and takes the fact the students have to stand up now because the community can only be safe if we allow it to be safe. viii.

Quick wants to be promoting a safe environment in our home, classroom or wherever we are in ix.

Speaker Quick says that we should report all acts and makes a pledge to we as students step up our game to make this community safer. x.

Senator Shockey, did not know him that well, but talks of how one morning he said “im doing great” xi.

Speaker Quick states that a lot of the leaders on campus are in the room right now and a lot will be said on how we can correct what has gone wrong, leadership starts with the people in this room. xii.

As an individual that you exemplify everything that you stand for. xiii.

President Pro Tempore Troutman explains that without an objection this resolution passes. a.

SAR43027 passes without objection.

SAR43028- A Resolution to endorse the closing of the Holmes Student Center Turnaround to general public traffic i.

Quick talks about how dangerous the turnaround is a.

The proposed plan is for the fifteen minute, hotel parking, crosswalk, and is specifically for cars. b.

Short term solution to a long term problem, such as a long road behind, c.

Will not be until next semester, just to show support ii.

Questions a.

Senator Grosz the parking is usually filled with cars, is it possible to get police to take that b.

Senator Theodore is there definite expansion for Neptune

Quick explains that yes there will be expansion. c.

Senator Theodore how will it be enforced?

Speaker Quick says the NIU police. d.

Senator Peritz asks where will others be able to pick up students?

Quick explains that there are other sites around the Student Center that are designated for that role. e.

Senator Shockey there is permanent parking between Neptune and east

The Crosswalks are in next spring, the changes would be next year iii.

Senator Theodore expresses the concern that this will reinforce the image that NIU has of congestion and that the University is unfriendly to cars. iv.

SAR43030- A RESOLUTION TO RECOMMEND THE HOLMES STUDENT CENTER RECEIVE FUNDING i.

Speaker Quick makes a motion to hear SAR43030, Senator Peritz seconded a.

Discussed that the money is budgeted but not made available to them b.

Looking at ways to improve campus quickly and cost effective $25,000 ii.

Senator Chevas asks how will you monitor it?

Quick responds that they have a meeting with President Peters and have meeting with the finance committee later iii.

SAR43031- A RESOLUTION TO ALLOCATE RESERVE FUNDS FROM THE REC CENTER RESERVE ACCOUNTS i.

Speaker Quick makes a motion to hear SAR43031, Senator Zanayed seconds. i.

Campus recreation center for 400,000 students ii.

Gives 2 million from bond fee and .5 Million dollars from SA account iii.

Speaker Quick reads the bill iv.

Everything outdated, we want that money to use for everything that needs to be replaced v.

Peritz said how do we know that this is the right amount

Quick said its just for everything that is old and there is a meeting tomorrow with Sandy Carlisle and Dr.

SAR43032- A RESOLUTION TO CONGRATULATE THE FOOTBALL TEAM ON THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIP vii.

Speaker Quick makes a motion to hear SAR43032, Peritz viii.

Show Support for winning MAC championship ix.

VOTE SAR43032, SAR43032 passes.

SAR43033- ENDORSE THE PLACEMENT OF THE NEW POLICE STATION i.

Speaker Quick makes a motion to hear SAR43033, Senator Bender seconds.

says that University village is the #1 call volume and is biggest section 8 housing in IL

Senator Young asks why it cant be by Greek row

Quick says it’s the best location from a meeting with Chief Feithen. b.

Theodore explains that the problem is the contractor being used to build it and many students have concerns about them moving and don’t know where constituencies stand on it, debate is going on for years and years, wishes to talk to more students to find out concerns. iii.

Senator Peritz says that if there is a minority of students against it, and therefore the Student Association should not come outwardly for it. b.

Speaker Quick says that you should be speaking to constituents and that we should vote tonight, regardless of vote. c.

Senator McClay says we should not vote on it right now and predicting the media outlash from having a police station right across the street. d.

President Pro Tempore Troutman clarifies the option to postpone indefinitely . e.

Senator Fiegel asks what the problem is?

Senator Theodore responds that there is not enough input and that it feels like there is a university issue when there are two police stations close together. g.

Senator Julion says he feels that Dekalb is getting too dangerous and feels that this is a perfect thing to happen to make sure this nonsense stops. h.

Senator Tran asks what the big deal with making NIU safer. We are here to vote on it and this is a big way to make people feel safer on campus. i.

Senator Keith makes a motion to commit to public Affairs, Senator Mackenzie seconded.

RULED OUT OF ORDER, Public Affairs is unrelated. j.

Speaker Quick says that the city police is with and there for the students and that none of those things are the reasons for the move. k.

Senator Black states concern that there is a purpose to benefit the students and not make it a reactionary change, and not out of a fear, and look at the best intentions. l.

Speaker Quick there are two problems: one is the number one call volume comes from University Village and two- the security is getting bought out. m.

Senator Black says that she won’t put her life on the line with a flashlight. n.

Speaker Quick responds that the police can respond quicker to emergencies. o.

Senator Shockey responds to students concerns of making students pay for more tickets and fines is not the reason for the move and that Senators shouldn’t try to postpone the resolution. p.

Senator Berry says that we can recognize the problem but we need to fix it and this is the way to do that. q.

Senator Peritz responds to Senator Fiegel, Senator Julion, Senator Tran talks that his r.

Senator Julion says that he is sick of people being shot and that race doesn’t have anything to do with it., Wirtz s.

Senator Grosz says we need it right across the street makes a motion to call the question, Senator Berry seconded t.

Senator Peritz makes a motion for a division of assembly, Senator Maple seconds.

The Division of Assembly proves that a roll call vote is not wanted.

SAR43034- A RESOLUTION TO DISCOURAGE THE PRICE BREAKS FOR LOW INCOME UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES PARKING PASSES i.

Speaker Quick makes a motion to hear SAR43034, Senator Peritz seconds. a.

Operating staff at tiered parking system of making less than $32,000 b.

Unless they cut it in half for students as well, we are not in support of this ii.

SAR43035- A RESOLUTION FOR THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL ADOPT AN ENFORCEMENT OF THE FACULTY/STAFF CODE OF

CONDUCT i.

Speaker Quick makes a motion to hear SAR43035, Senator Peritz seconds.

SAB43026- A BILL TO ALOCATE MONEY FOR THE GODADDY.COM BOWL i.

Speaker Quick makes a motion to hear SAB43026, Senator Grosz seconds. a.

SA usually allocates money for athletics and travel expenses for students up to $25,000 dollars and wants as many students to go as possible. ii.

Vote SAB43026, SAB43026 passes.
