STUDENT ASSOCIATION SENATE

OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY

3 March 2013

CALL TO ORDER, ROLL CALL AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The meeting was called to order by Speaker James Zanayed at 6:06 p.m. in the Clara Sperling Skyroom of the Holmes Student Center. Chad Harris conducted a roll call of Senators. All members were present except; Senator Koegel, Senator Nanni, Senator Wiggins, Senator Scritchlow, Senator Smith, Senator

Johnson, Senator Methipara, Senator Beltran, Senator Cakici, Senator Churney, Senator Frank, Senator

Sarna. With a quorum present, the meeting proceeded. Senator Brady led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

MEETING AND AGENDA APPROVAL

Speaker Zanayed motions to approve last meetings minutes. Speaker Zanayed motions to move agenda items A and C from new business to old business and to pass the items as consent agenda. Motion passes.

SPEAKER’S REPORT

Next week and the week after there is no Senate meeting (3 week break)

Chairwoman Frank has stepped down from Senate for the time being, Senator Gonzalez will be the new Chairman of Public Affairs

We will be reworking the Bylaws these upcoming weeks.

There is a bill going through the Illinois Legislative tracks involving “Carry Laws” on University grounds, Come to our office for more information/activism.

SAR 44051: A Resolution to appoint Miki Lynne Grace to Senator at Large

Miki Lynne Grace speaks on her own behalf

Resolution passes 6:55

Senator takes Oath of Office

SAB 44040: A Bill to add a referendum question

Deputy Speaker speaks on the Bills behalf

Speaker Zanayed endorses the question

The question will be involving the quality of campus recreation inspired by our last week’s presentation by Sandi Carlisle

“Should investing in the Recreation Center be a high priority in the immediate future”

Senator Troutman Calls the question at 7:10

Bill passes at 7:11 pm

Speaker Zanayed requested a motion to adjourn. Motion is made by Senator Theodore. Seconded by

Senator Clark. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:36p.m.
