cUL - approval for process SIL relays.
RICHMOND, VA (July 23, 2014) — Weidmuller’s expanding range of SCS SIL3 relays
are finding applications in the safety systems of process plants, and after achieving
accreditation to EN 61508 with TUV-NORD certification, most models also now come
with cULus approvals.
Functionally, SCS Series takes 24Vdc safety inputs, with optional integral wide-range
voltage (24-230Vac/dc) feedback monitoring. Single-channel models operate in ‘Deenergize-to-Safe’ mode, with optional gas corrosion-resistant (G3) coating for the circuit
board. The typical applications for these are tank overfill protection, or shut-down
controls for refineries and oil/gas storage facilities. It is these models which have the
cULus approval.
One of the two-channel SCS models comes with a test input. One output of this model is
‘De-energized-to-Safe’ and the other is ‘Energized-to-Safe’, making it a versatile choice
for on/off actuator safety switching.
Another two-channel model is designed specifically for safely shutting down the fuel
supply to a combustion burner. Hence the SCS relay also has control connections to
interface with the burner management system e.g. for a boiler’s furnace combustion
controls.
The SCS modules are all 22mm wide and Din rail mounted. The housing features
pluggable field connectors to simplify removal, front status indication, and in most cases
an externally-accessible fuse. The range can be operated within ambient temperatures -25
to 50˚C.
