Florham Park Senior Citizens Club Newsletter MAY - AUGUST 2014 SUMMERTIME ACTIVITIES FLORHAM PARK SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB Senior Citizens Center 111 Ridgedale Ave. Florham Park, NJ 07932 Phone Numbers Senior Center Main No. 973-520-8984 Senior Center Office 973-520-8983 Elective Officers President: Charlene Sozansky 973-822-3145 Treasurer: Russell White Vice President: Vacant Secretary: Angela Landon 973-377-0107 973-765-0022 President’s Message We are finally into spring, so I hope you are all looking forward to getting out and coming to our upcoming meetings to see and talk with one another. We have some interesting programs to finish our Club year and there will be some special treats coming as well. At 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, Charlie Germershausen will bring his food truck to the Community Center and he will be serving us hot dogs and ices for dessert. The Club will provide drinks, and perhaps some of you can bring chips, pretzels or salad that you can share at your table. Also, on Friday, May 16 Mayor Mark Taylor will hold an “Open House” luncheon at the Senior Center from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for ALL Florham Park Senior residents. Hopefully, we’ll have a good turnout of members at the Mayor’s event to meet and greet guests and talk about the Club. We will have informational flyers available in the hope of getting new members to join us. So, if you know of a Florham Park resident over the age of 62, please suggest they come by to meet the Mayor, see the Senior Center, and possibly become interested in joining us. Due to the Open House, the movie for that day will start at 1:15 p.m. At our meeting on May 28 we’ll have an ice cream social; and last, but not least, I’m sure you are all looking forward to our Spring Luncheon at the Hanover Manor on Wednesday, June 11. Olga Pretrialak has arranged some great entertainment as well. Dennis Callahan is planning some informational meetings with refreshments during the summer on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of July and August. Specific information will be announced later. If anyone is willing to organize a trip during the summer please contact me. Information on any trips that may be scheduled for the summer will be printed and available at the Senior Center. Stop by to check from time to time at what may be planned. Also, Long’s Travel is willing to schedule a trip in July, August, or September to the Sight and Sound Theater for the showing of “Moses”. Let me know if you are interested. Telephone Tree The Telephone Tree is used primarily for notification of the death of a club member or the member’s immediate family. This is done so that we can individually extend our condolences and attend local services. We also call in the event of the cancellation of a meeting, or some type of emergency heat or cold situation. Our Telephone Tree starts out with three people: Sis Badcock, Eileen Cerrato and myself. Each of us calls nine people and those nine call approximately six others so that we cover our entire membership. We are all volunteers doing a service for our members. If you are not being called or do not want to be called, please let me know so you can be added or removed from the list. In case of the death of a club member or someone in the member’s immediate family, please call Charlene Sozansky at 973-822-3145. If she is not available, please advise Eileen Cerrato at 973-822-2296. Thanks.
