It determines school policy for curriculum, staffing, discipline, scheduling, instructional practices, extra-curricular activities and other matters pertinent to the operation of the school. The SBDM council meets once per month throughout the school year. Who serves on the council? Two parents, three teachers and the principal serve on the council. Who may run for the council? Any parent, stepparent, foster parent or legal guardian of a student who will be attending the school during the parent’s term of office may run for the council. A parent is ineligible if he/she is an employee or relative of an employee of that school or the district central office, or a local school board member or the spouse of a school board member. What are the typical terms of office? The term runs for one year typically beginning July 1 and ending June 30. The list of nominees and their nomination letters will be displayed in the school hallway by the cafeteria, documented in the office for review, posted on the PTA website, and included in the PTA newsletter. If I want to run for the council, what should I do? Complete the attached nomination form and return it by Friday, August 28, 12pm to the school office. You may nominate yourself or another parent, if you have that parent’s consent. Nominations from the floor will not be permitted. Who may vote in the election? Parents, stepparents, foster parents, or legal guardians of students attending this school during the 20152016 year may vote in the election. When does the Meadowthorpe SBDM meet?
