Central City Elementary hosted the District Academic Meet on Saturday, March 2, 2013. The following students placed and will compete at the Region Academic Meet at North Butler Elementary on Saturday, March 23, 2013: a. Lucas Adams placed 1st in Math, b. Andrea Ashbrook placed 5th in Arts & Humanities c. Niioka Johnson placed 2nd in Arts & Humanities d. Jaylin Smith placed 5th in Composition e. CCES was awarded the Katherine Hume Sportsmanship Award 2. Two of our 1st grade students, Scotty Tubbs and Jarett Slobig, both in Mrs. Miller’s class are cast members in the M.C.T.I. production of Pinocchio this month. The school day performances will be Friday, March 22nd. 3. Lucas Adams, Mrs. Vincent’s 5th grade, made a perfect score of 76 on his AIMSweb Math Computation test. 4. We had two boys that placed in the Adairville Archery Competition: a. Buzzy Ashley placed 5th in the 3rd Grade Boys category b. Jacob Bingham placed 8th in the 5th Grade Boys category 5. Parent/Teacher Conferences were held Thursday, March 14th, 2013. 6. The Spring Book Fair was held March 11-15, 2013. D. Public Comment BUDGET REPORT A. Mrs. Higgs attended a PD360 Training on March 12, 2013 b. Administrative Team is still meeting with individual students to discuss K-PREP goals. c. Spring Scrimmage Testing for grades K-5 is set for Thursday, March 21 & Friday, March 22, 2013. d. Implementing new writing strategies: 3.8 Paragraph i. Grades K-1: 1.4 Paragraphs ii. Grades 2-3: 2.6 Paragraphs iii. Grades 4-5: 3.8 Paragraphs e. K-PREP Awards Banquet is scheduled for Friday, April 26th, 2013. 2 IV. V. VI. VII. f. Donna Vincent will be meeting with the teachers during their planning on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, for Portfolio Checks 2. CCES is hosting the District Reading Meeting on Thursday, March 21st, 2013, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. 3. WATCH D.O.G.S. Kickoff – Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. 4. 2nd Grade will be attending Wildlife Day at MCHS West Campus on Wednesday, March 27th, 2013. B. Trip to see the Bowling Green Hot Rods on April 30, 2013, approved for grades 3, 4, & 5. PROGRAM REVIEWS A. Faculty Meeting held on Monday, March 18th, 2013 for the purpose of evidence collection and review. COMMITTEE REPORTS A. Attendance – Winning classrooms for February were rewarded with Face Painting in the Art Room: Davis – K, Warner – 1st, Taylor – 2nd, Burris – 3rd, Rhoades – 4th, and Vincent – 5th. Mrs. Vincent had the highest attendance for the month. B. Program Review –Evidence collection is continuing. Teachers will be scanning in the evidence and uploading to the G Drive. Drafts of all 4 Program Reviews will be presented at April SBDM meeting C. School Culture & Discipline – A few teachers will be attending The Leader in Me Leadership Day at East View Elementary School on April 23, 2013. D. Professional Development – E. NEW BUSINESS A. Family Resource Grant B. Summer Daycare Program Contract C. Set possible work session date for Policy Review VIX. ON-GOING LEARNING A. The Social Studies Assessment, Curriculum, and Instruction (SSACI) collaborative, a consortium of 22 states/organizations, including Kentucky, convened by the Council of Chief State School Officers, is working to publish a new Framework for Social Studies in preparation for new standards. SSACI is working to explicitly ensure that the Framework for Social Studies will support the Common Core English/language arts standards and is working to identify resources/criteria for resources that will support teachers in meeting both sets of standards. The anticipated completion date of the Framework for Social Studies is spring 2013. KDE will convene a standards revision/development team to identify standards that will align to/address the Framework for Social Studies in the summer of 2013. Look for details in the spring. X.
