SCHOOL-BASED DECISION MAKING POLICY SCHOOL: Hawthorne Elementary School SUBJECT OF THE POLICY: Committees POLICY STATEMENT: There will be eight standing committees that will report to the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT). The primary responsibilities of each committee are as follows: Instructional Leadership Team Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) Implementation and Impact Checks for Academic Components Textbook Selection Assessment Calendar Instructional Leadership in School Community Implementation and Impact Checks for Climate Components of CSIP Fundraisers Parent Involvement Student Recognition School-wide Discipline Plan Behavior Management Climate/Culture Celebrations School Climate Leadership in School Community COMMITTEES Professional Development Embedded Professional Development Plan After-school Professional Development Plan Professional Development Analysis Technology School-wide Technology Plan School Website Technology Professional Development Dual Language Collaboration with Parent Dual Language Committee School-wide Dual Language Plan Dual Language Professional Development Exceptional Child Education (ECE) ECE Compliance ECE Professional Development for ECE Teachers ECE Professional Development for General Education Teachers CARE for Kids CARE for Kids Leadership Team CARE for Kids Professional Development District Communication Social Calendar for School Year Student Recognition Staff Recognition New Student Hospitality School Safety Plan Safety Professional Development Safety Patrol District Communication Hospitality and Social Safety Committee Health Promotions Compliance with Health Promotions Grant Health Promotions Professional Development Health Promotions Plan Committee membership will be obtained through application and will be determined by the school administration. All certified staff members must serve on one committee that will meet once a month or bimonthly. Classified staff members may also apply for any committee. Staff members will be notified of their committee placements by September 1st. Certified staff members will also apply to be a leadership team representative. If needed, the certified staff members will vote for eight leadership team members. Leadership team members will be assigned to committees so that one leadership team member is on each committee. Committee recommendations will be brought to the ILT for review before being brought to the SBDM council. The term of the leadership team representative will be two years with the opportunity to be reelected. The SBDM council shall review all recommendations to determine if there are any conflicts with any Board of Education policies, contractual obligations, or the management of the school, and shall advise committees of potential conflicts. Parent representation will be sought on the committees and attendance will be encouraged. However, parent absence will not hinder the work or effectiveness of the committee. Parents may not serve as the leadership team representative of any sub-committee. Parents will apply to the school for committee membership and placement will be determined by the school administration. The number of parents serving on a given committee will be at a two staff members to one parent ratio unless the sub-committee votes to increase the number of parent members based on sub-committee need. The school administration will encourage the following committee composition: Teacher, classified staff, and parent representative Minority representation Representation of the school structure (primary, intermediate, ECE, etc.) Leadership Team Representatives are responsible for maintaining documentation of all committee meetings (i.e. agendas, minutes, and sign-in forms) and reporting to the SBDM chair who will then forward to the superintendent/designee when appropriate. Committees may research issues, gather school-wide input, or prepare drafts for the SBDM Council. Committees have the responsibility to carry out tasks assigned to them by the SBDM Council. Decisions of the committees shall be made by consensus. In the event consensus cannot be reached, a majority vote will be used to decide the issues.
