Finley High School Year 9 Geography Assessment Task Interactive Australia Quizzes Weighting: Date Given: Due Date: In groups of four you are to create interactive quizzes which are designed to teach students about the physical characteristics that make Australia unique. Each member of the group will choose an “area of expertise” from below. You will research this area covering the questions outlined and select appropriate Smart Tool quizzes. Each area of expertise must have a minimum of 3 different types of quizzes and minimum of 20 questions. When selecting the type of quiz used you must consider how the students are going to learn when playing the quiz. Some Smart Tool quizzes that can be used are Category Sort, Hot Spots, Image Arrange, Key Word Match, Multiple Choice, Vortex and Word Guess etc. How to access Smart Notebook and quizzes: Smart Notebook-landscape picture (leftside)- lesson activity toolkit 2.0-activities-interactive and multimedia- double click on one selected- click edit. Each new quiz you need to click a new page, if you don’t do this the new quiz will override old one. The areas of expertise and the information to be covered by the four group members include: Major landforms and drainage basins: a) b) c) d) Location of a variety of Australia’s major landforms Describe the geographical processes that have formed and transformed these landforms Locate of Australia’s drainage basins Describe the processes important to drainage basins Weather and Climate: a) The difference between weather and climate. b) Describe the seasonal variations of the climate across Australia c) Explain the processes that cause variations in the weather (include fronts, pressure systems, el Nino, la Nina etc). d) How does the weather impact on the natural landforms? Natural Resources: a) Identify Australia’s main natural resources. b) Identify where these resources are found. c) For at least 5 of these resources identified outline the processes that lead to their formation. Flora and Fauna: a) Identify some of Australia’s unique flora and fauna. b) Where can they be found? c) How have they adapted to Australia’s changing terrain and climate? Marking Criteria Peer Assessment Each group will present their quizzes to the class on the Smartboard. Selected class members from each group will play the quizzes.
