West Virginia Language Leaper Elementary World Language Program Elementary Curriculum Consultant Candidate Information Qualifications for WV World Elementary Curriculum Consultant In-depth knowledge of early language learning and second language acquisition Previous experience in developing/guiding elementary foreign language standardsbased, thematic-centered, and content-related curriculum at a district or state level Previous experience working with international schools, or districts preferred A minimum Master’s Degree in a related field (Doctorate preferred) Demonstrated leadership in the field of early language learning including publication of scholarly work Previous experience presenting professional development related to the topic of early language learning Knowledge of media-based early language learning programs Commitment to the Project Provide training to Language Leaper Pilot teachers on August 2 and 3 in Morgantown, WV related to the topic of early language learning Provide training to Language Leaper curriculum development team in a two and one-half day work session in Charleston, WV, on September 21-23 related to the topic of developing standards-based/thematic-organized/content-related elementary world language instruction Provide ongoing technical assistance and review/evaluation/revision of curriculum developed by teams Work within the timelines established for the project Project Incentives $2,500 for Elementary Pedagogy Training on August 2 and 3, 2011 $2,500 for Curriculum Development Training on September 21-23, 2011. $3,200 for unit review ($400 each for 8 units) $8,200 Contract total maximum Consultant Responsibilities August 2-3, 2011: Provide training for Language Leaper Pilot teachers focused on early language learning, effects of immersion classroom, preparing students to demonstrate what they can do and supplemental activities for the classroom September 21-23, 2011: Provide training for Language Leaper Curriculum Development team focused on considerations for thematic/content related planning, preparing students to demonstrate what they can do and communicative activities for the early language classroom. Additionally will provide guidance/evaluation/revisions as curriculum development team members create standards-based curriculum during the session September 21 – December 21, 2011: Evaluate curriculum documents using an online/distance format and suggest/provide specific revisions for a total of eight elementary units.
