Introduction:
We gather in the presence of Christ as his word is
proclaimed to us, as the Eucharist is celebrated. We
prepare once more to be drawn into the ministry of Jesus,
the true shepherd of God’s people, who provides us with
rest, refreshment, pasture and leadership.

1st Reading: Jeremiah 23:1-6
Jeremiah does not think much of the “shepherds”, the
leaders who are supposed to be looking after God’s
people. His vision is that one day God will be a true
shepherd.
2nd Reading: Ephesians 2:13-18
The author stresses that although his Gentile readers
used to be very far from the Jews, Jesus, in his death,
has now united the two groups so there is only one
humanity in Christ.

In the prelude to the feeding of the five thousand, Jesus

When Nothing Happens
Sitting or walking with God day after day, we come to expect that a great expansion of spiritual awareness should be
our reward. So often, however, nothing seems to happen. Sometimes we wonder if the effort is worth it. Could there
be a better way for us spend our time?
Prayer is something of a paradox. Sometimes, nothing seems to happen during our time of quiet prayer, but the
effects of it are felt in different ways during the rest of the day. You can prove this by remembering the times when
you stopped spending quiet periods with God. The more protracted the omission, the less peaceful your days
become. Although it is hard to put this into words, you knew that something was missing in your life, that something
had changed for the worse.
If we want the peace of God, we have to sit with him in what seems like darkness. The sitting is never a waste of
time. Something happens in the sitting, and it often happens below the level of our conscious awareness. God works
in the apparent darkness, and he slowly changes us as we live out our day. We have to trust his workings.
Let us pray: “Lord, may I never be discouraged when I spend quiet time with you and nothing seems to happen. No
time spent with you is ever wasted. You are the one who determines the ultimate fruit of my prayer. My part is simply
to be with you in trust. Amen.”

1. Seniors Luncheon: We welcome new comers, singles and couples. Please join our friendly group for a

2. Glory Be Café: We are in need of help before and after the 8am mass. Can you help? Joy and Alan (who keep it
going) would love to have at least one person come at 7.15/7.30am prior to mass and need more people to help after
the mass, all done by 9.30am. It is only one Sunday in the month to join the roster. Please consider helping to keep
the cafe active, gents, ladies and teens are all welcomed. No experience required, just wanting to 'give a little back'

4. Whitfords Got Talent Concert: ‘Bringing The Community Together' in the Performing Arts Centre, Sacred

5. WYD Dinner Dance: Whitfords youth are fundraising for WYD 2016; please support us by buying a ticket and
coming along to Dinner Dance on Saturday 25th July. There will be a live band and a 3 course buffet. Tickets $65.

6. A Holy Day of Obligation: Masses Saturday 08.30am or 6.30pm on the 15th August: Assumption of the
Blessed Virgin Mary ‘Mary, the immaculate perpetually Virgin Mother of God, after the completion of her earthly life,
was assumed body and soul into the glory of Heaven’. There will be 9am Mass on Friday 14th in our Church with
WCPS attending.

8. Seasons For Growth: A grief and loss programme to help people cope with death, separation, divorce, any loss

9. Valuables in Cars: Just a reminder not to leave valuables in your car as we have had some incidents of cars
being broken intro recently. We do have a list at the back of the church that you can put your name on to help with the
roster for patrolling the carpark during weekend Masses. Please remember that if you see any suspicious behaviour,
while on roster, do not approach but ring 000.
10. Healing Mass: Saturday 25th July at 8.30am. If you are suffering from any kind of sickness, physical,
emotional or spiritual, please do come to receive the Sacrament of Healing of the Sick. All others are
welcome to join in prayer for God’s healing power bestows on our loved ones who are not well.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus had planned to slip away from the crowds for a few moments of peace and a
little rest. When He saw the people gathered, however, He put His needs aside to meet the needs of
others. Sometimes, as good stewards, we are called to do the same.
