Fr Joe writes:
Real Presence
If God is a real presence in our lives, he must be much more than just an idea in our heads. Through prayer
and meditation, we grow to sense God’s love and to know that he is totally present to us. Through our
attentiveness to God, we begin to experience that he is loving us and leading us as we live each day.
God’s presence is always real, but our awareness of it comes and goes. Even in our moments of dryness and
darkness when our awareness dims, God is totally present to us. The Muslims have a beautiful saying, “God
is closer to you than your neck vein.”
Though God is always present to us, his presence grows more fruitful to the extent that we become aware of
it. The ability to be aware is God’s gift. Our task is to be open to the gift through a life receptive to God’s
presence, a receptivity that grows as we grow in silent expectation.
Let us pray: “Lord, I ask for the perseverance to remain attentive to your presence. May I realize more clearly
that you are the goal of my life. Amen.”
PLANNED GIVING: WHERE DOES YOUR MONEY GO?
1ST Collection: This money pays our priests a basic income. A percentage of the 1st Collection goes to helping
support priests in smaller parishes so that they too can receive their basic income.
2nd Collection: This is the money you put in your Planned Giving Envelopes and any loose cash put into the 2 nd
Collection baskets. This money maintains our presbytery, church, office, parish centre and pastoral group expenses.
Why Join?: If you join the parish planned giving program then you are planning to support our church financially. We
are a family and we need to budget, just like you do in your family. We plan for the future as well as trying to live day
by day. By committing to give your nominated amount our finance committee are then able to plan for our future and
pay the bills today. We are self-funded and we rely on your support to run our family/parish effectively. The new year
for the Planned Giving starts on the 5th July 2015 and if you have been thinking of joining now would be a good time to
start.
NEW ENVELOPES for 2015/2016 will shortly be ready for COLLECTION from the Church foyer.
