CLASS TITLE: PROFESSIONAL GEOLOGIST III
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is highly advanced geological work requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional
Geologists. Duties include coordinating a statewide program in a specialized area of geology or
analyzing and evaluating unique types of geologic interpretations submitted to the state or performing
other comparable office, field, or laboratory work.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Serves as a technical advisor to governmental agencies in need of geological interpretation or
policy formulation.
Initiates, plans and designs geological research projects.
Proposes, coordinates and participates in geological research grants, contracts, and other
interagency assistance projects.
Ensures stratigraphic, paleontologic, chronologic, and synthem nomenclature adheres to the
codes as established by the North American Commission on Stratigraphic Nomenclature.
Coordinates and participates in the review of permit requests when complex geologic data or
specialized interpretations are included.
Prepares and reviews technical reports for publication.
Serves as program spokesman or representative regarding Florida geology and/or geological
requirements of various regulatory programs.
Signs off and seals permits, contracts, reports, and other documents which require a
Professional Geologist seal for public record.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques of geological research, analysis or
testing.
Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
Skill in the use of scientific laboratory and field equipment.
Ability to collect, record and analyze scientific data relating to the science of geology.
Ability to conduct geological research, studies or analyses using scientific methods and
techniques.
Ability to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of scientific data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Registration as a Professional Geologist in accordance with Florida Statute 492 and two years of
post-registration experience.
