CLASS TITLE: PROFESSIONAL GEOLOGIST II
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is advanced geological work requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Geologists.
Duties include coordinating geological research investigations, regulatory or research programs,
contracts or projects, analyzing and evaluating geologic interpretations submitted to the state; serving
as a scientific assistant, consultant or technical advisor within governmental agencies; or performing
other comparable office, field, or laboratory work.

submitted to the state; serving as a scientific assistant, consultant or technical advisor within

Assists in planning and designing geological projects.
Coordinates and participates in geological research grants, contracts, and other interagency
assistance projects.
Performs geological reviews of permit requests for applications requiring geologic
interpretation.
Prepares, reviews and critiques technical reports submitted for the public record or publication
by the state or federal government, or in professional journals.

Reviews and analyzes data or samples submitted for final acceptance or rejection in compliance
with regulatory specifications.
Signs off and seals permits, contracts, reports, and other documents which require a PG seal for
public record.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques of geological research, analysis or
testing.
Knowledge of the procedures, equipment and materials used in laboratory testing and analysis.
Knowledge of the methods of data collection.
Skill in the use of scientific and geological engineering laboratory and field equipment.
Ability to collect, record and analyze scientific data relating to the science of geology.
Ability to conduct geological research, studies or analyses using scientific methods and
techniques.
Ability to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of scientific data.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the
science of geology.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Registration as a Professional Geologist in accordance with Florida Statute 492 and one year of
post-registration experience.
