No:03 Week ending 25.09.15 Dear Parents/Carers, Children, Staff and Governors, Hopefully everyone in KS1 is back in the routine of being back to school. I appreciate that the return it is often a shock to the system so the staff team have been ensuring that they induct the children into their new classes with plenty of reminders, explanations and modelling of what is expected in terms of work and behaviour. Of course, we will continue to do this, continue to give focused praise for fantastic work and superb kind words and kind actions and continue to support our learners. Some children have already been selected as Ambassadors and I have been pleased to see so many children behaving well, making a great effort, working really well and being shining examples. Please continue to encourage your children with these areas as it helps t make for a happy, calm and focused school community who make good choices! Thank you. Many thanks to the 20+ parent/carers who have already attended helpers’ meetings! Your support and contribution is greatly appreciated! I’m looking forward to having the buzz of our helpers back around school! Thank you for the time you give to us This coming Tuesday is Tidy up Tuesday. Please may you come in and help if you have been to one of the existing helpers’ meetings as we have several jobs that we need a helping hand with! Miss Read – our new Assistant Headteacher and class teacher of Lime Class (Reception) would like to extend the plea for some additional tidy-up help on Wednesday and Thursday next week, preferably in the afternoon. Any parent/helper from any year group is welcome so please do let her know! Thank you. After so much publicity, I thought the Rugby extravaganza was starting last week! Clearly, I was a week ahead of myself…so enjoy tonight’s opening ceremony and the matches! Already, lots of children have told me that they will be at some of the events or watching it on TV. Please be sure to send us in your photos and info for our rugby display board! We’ll also be having a Supermagic Rugby day in October (we will be able to confirm the date next week) so lots of action coming up…and hopefully some rugby talent in our community who can come in and get involved! Please let Miss Uppal (Gingko Class) or myself know. You may have noticed a hive of activity at school last Saturday. We are pleased that Stagecoach are using our venue to support the arts and equally pleased that Sarah and Will Chitty (Eve, Year 2) are running it! Come and join the fun! Contact 020 8977 0843 for more information. Have a superb weekend…and enjoy the Rugby Opening Ceremony, tonight at 7pm, ITV followed by Fuji vs England at 8pm. Warmest wishes, HJP Heidi Johnson Paul, Headteacher Well done to Nursery and Reception Children and new joiners in Years 1 and 2 Wow! We have been thrilled and delighted with the smooth start to school for the Nursery and Reception children. They have been amazing at settling in, quickly becoming familiar with tasks and routines…including the few who have had a little wobbly moment here and there. Parents/carers have been equally amazing at preparing their children for their next step in the learning journey and have co-operated brilliantly with school requests such as a swift kiss-anddrop-off. Thanks and well done to everyone! It has been a great start for Early Years (Nursery and Reception) We have a couple of new joiners in KS1 and they have also made a good transition into their year groups. Well done By the end of the month, we will be sending out ‘settling-in’ notes to let you know how your child is doing but if you have any queries in the meantime, please do ask! Many thanks. Positive behaviour Management – Information and a Competition Positive Behaviour Policy Sept 2015.doc Please follow the link So that you are aware, we always aim to ‘catch children being good’ and praise accordingly, always referring to the school philosophies of ‘Kind Words and Kind Actions’, ‘Learn and Let Others Learn, ‘I Can You Can We Can’ and the Hampton Wick High Five which encapsulates the learning behaviours of ‘Ready, Respectful, Reasoning, Resilience and Reflect’ and the School Codes. Some minor adjustments have been made regarding how we manage matters when things do not go positively as well as when things are going tremendously well! The children have decided that for great behaviour treats, they would like extra playtime and that special badges will be given for great behaviour, amazing effort, wonderful helping and marvellous manners. I think that these are excellent suggestions! The newly formed Year 2 School Council would like all of our families – children and parents alike – to enter a competition to design on paper a badge for these special occasions. The Y2SC have said that they would like a ‘rosette’ style badge, which looks ‘really fancy’ and ‘special’…but easy enough to be made. If you would like to enter, please send in your designs with your child’s name and class on the piece of paper. From the entries, the Y2SC will choose the 2 winners whose designs will be made into special badges for each class. Please join in the fun. Thank you! Headlice Please check your child’s hair every week for headlice. If your child has headlice, please ensure that they are treated. If you are not sure how to treat this complaint, please ask a member of staff who can help you or ask your local pharmacist. No-one wants headlice so please be part of the solution by regularly checking your child’s hair and taking action where needed. New signing in arrangements Please note that all visitor on site will now be required to wear a lanyard and no longer the school badge. Please follow the required procedures which will be explained to you when you first come to sign in. Thank you. Healthy Living Policy Please may I remind that children are not to have sweets at school. When it is a child’s birthday, we will not give out sweets nor will this be permitted on school premises. Likewise with birthday cakes/treats. Thank you. The Council is consulting on a range of road safety measures in Kingston road and Upper Teddington Road. Please go online and have your say: https://consultation.richmond.gov.uk/highways-transport/kingston-road-and-upper-teddington-localsafety. You have until 15th October to fill out the questionnaire, paper copies are available. Please help in the outreach efforts for this consultation.
