Dear Parents/Carers,
Wellies
In the Early years, we go outside in all weather. Please could you
make sure that your child has wellies in school which are clearly
labelled with your child’s name. These can be put on the blue trolley
next to the coat pegs. Please ensure all other items of clothing are
clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Reading books
We have been lucky enough to have some new reading books bought for
the children to send home each week. These books are our lilac banded
books which contain no words (You will find a grey label on the spine).
These are the books we start the children on for guided reading in
school before we teach them how to segment/blend words. You will need
to model how to tell/make up a story using the pictures first. Then
ask your child to tell you their story using the pictures. Please ask
your child some questions (some can be found at the back of the book)
or ones they can find out using the pictures. Once you have shared
the story together, see if your child can retell you the story without
using the book. Encourage them to use as much detail as they can.
Homework / Homework Club
The Reception team send out homework every Friday evening with the
weekly newsletter. If you do need another copy of the homework, you
can also access it via the schools website in the “class zone” section.
It is your responsibility to make sure your child has a copy of the
homework before they leave school on a Friday. School website:
http://www.st-marys-levenshulme.manchester.sch.uk/. If your child is
absent on the day that the homework is given out, please can you make
sure you see the class teacher on the day that they return, so that
you can be given a copy.
Just a reminder that we run homework club every Monday in the reception
classroom at 3:10 – 3:30. These sessions are for the parent and child
to attend together.
Junk modelling
If you have any spare recycling items e.g. empty containers (small),
plastic bottles, yogurt pots, bottle lids, empty kitchen roll tubes,
please could you bring them into school for our make-it area.
School fund
We welcome donations for our school fund which help to provide the
children with many resources to enhance their learning. £1 per week
or £7 for the half term.
Thank you for your continued support,
The Reception Team
