Summer Conference Assistant Application Packet University of Maine at Machias Office of Residential Education and Commuter Life Summer 2015 Summer Conference Assistant Job Description I. Primary Purpose of the Position: The Summer Conference Assistant is responsible for creating and maintaining an atmosphere and living environment conducive to the success of each summer group and summer residents. The Conference Assistant will assist the Assistant Director and Director of Residential Education and Commuter Life in facilitating the logistics of summer conference groups and residents housed in the Residence Halls. The Summer Conference Assistant will also assist in preparing the Residence Halls for opening in the Fall, and will also help other campus departments in fulfilling their summer duties. II. Essential Duties: Perform on-duty/on-call responsibilities for the duration of employment in coordination with the Summer Community Advisor, daily from 9 PM to 12 AM. Organize and staff check-in and check-out processes for all summer conferences in the Residence Halls. Organize and test exterior door swipe cards and room keys. Create and design welcome signs/bulletin boards/name tags specific to all summer conference groups in the Residence Halls. Assist Physical Plant in preparing rooms for conference groups requesting linens. Respond to all on-site emergency situations as they arise. Assist in facilitating brief orientations with the Residential Education staff for each conference group. Complete damage assessment of rooms used by conferences after departure. Work as a counselor for the MESSY program, and other related duties including evening programming for campers. Assist in the overall preparation for conference groups. Assist in the Student Life Office when needed. Assist other departments in summertime duties. Assist in Summer Orientation with SAIL. Enjoy the fantastic summer that Maine has to offer. III. Reporting Relationship: The Summer Conference Assistant reports directly to the Assistant Director and Director of Residential Education and Commuter Life. IV. Qualifications Limited outside commitments due to variances in job duties. Experience with event planning, camps and/or willingness to learn. Ability to relate to all people of all ages. Experience responding to emergency situations quickly and decisively. Flexible and strong customer service skills. Experience working in a variety of settings and shifts during the day and night, and ability to balance outside commitments. V. Notes There will be two Summer Conference Assistant positions available for hire for Summer 2015. VI. Compensation The Summer Conference Assistant can expect to work 20 to 25 hours per week depending on groups requesting accommodations, and will receive a room fee waiver for the summer, beginning the end date of the Spring semester and ending the start date of the Fall semester. The starting rate of pay will be $7.71 per hour.
