Job descriptions for entry level positions in global health may include: administrative tasks (i.e.
scheduling, booking travel or responding to general inquiries), editing documents, event planning,
supporting research activities, managing communications and development activities, and supporting
operational aspects of research or project implementation.
Keep in mind that many global health positions are funded by grants. This has significant implications:

Positions are often offered/renewed on a contractual basis, contingent on funding;
An administrative assistant or research assistant position is a typical entry-level position;
Connections students make while doing an internship abroad or studying abroad can be a good
springboard to future opportunities;
Fluency in a second language, familiarity with a particular geographic area, and/or knowledge of
basic public health concepts may make you a more competitive candidate;
Reaching out to principal investigators (PIs) who conduct international research (e.g., at schools of
public health) may be helpful sources for gathering more information about research-based global
health positions.
Resume tips
Some entry-level positions are as a research assistant or project coordinator positions, so tailor your
resume accordingly. Some important technical skills may include: STATA, SAS, SPSS, Reference Manager,
EndNote, NVivo, AtlasTi.
